Hi All,
I would like to get Elm or Elm Burl wood blank (at least 8in wide by 4 in deep/thick) for a Master woodturner who hasn't turned this before and always wanted to. Some of you may have watched his you tubes, Wayne the woodturner. He helps a lot of people woodturning so I asked him what hasn't he turned and would like to and his response was Elm burl or Elm. So I would like to try and get some and send it to him as a gift. (Shipping to Scotland will be a lot, I know) Please do not let him know I'm trying to do this, as I'd like to surprise him with it by shipping to a friend and then the friend showing up during his Live video.

Again Elm Burl 8in wide by 4in thick.

Thank you all

Very kind gesture of you Rex and I wish I had some to help you out. I'll keep my eyes open!

I have some elm laying around (not elm burl though), I can look at cutting a piece this afternoon if you're not in a hurry.

No hurry. It would be great to find a piece of Elm and Elm Burl, even with shipping costs. Thank you

Rex, sorry I didn't get out to cut the piece yesterday, had to go get a new chainsaw blade. If it stops raining today I'll see if I can find something that will work.

@RexB , I had a chance to go out and cut into a few pieces of my elm but unfortunately the checks go too far in from the ends. My logs are about 3' long and I can't even get a solid 6 or 8 inches for a bowl blank. Wish I could have been of more help with your elm search.

I have a bunch of really large elm burl. All elm burl in my experience is going to have checks and bark inclusions. I will see what I can cut up here in the next couple days.

Let me know what you want to do I do not want to cut anything if you want just the straight grained elm from Tim!

Thank you Woodworking Vet for trying, its wood, from another Vet, Thanks. If you have something for a vase, maybe one piece that I'm happy to buy, then Wayne will have Elm Burl and Elm!
Courtland, if you have something I will gladly buy/trade for it. Wayne likes small vases (6in tall by 3 or 4in wide) or platters 10 in or so and you have the bowl numbers. You probably know the best way to handle those cuts.
What I hoped to do was to send a couple of pieces and given that it takes 6 to 10 days to get to the UK, I'm sure the wood will do something. So anything will be a great surprise to him.
