**ENDED**3/8" shank carbide hook tool for hollow turning

Tim, Id like to get the 1/4 hook tool with the handle. For ornaments, Does the 3/8 tool have a longer reach to the middle of the hollowed body? or did you say the 1/4 tool would work? I am trying to work in a 5/8 hole. (My reference are the Hunter taper tools in a set of 3, with the hook tool and a shoulder tool) Do you make the straight tool as well?
Thanks
Barry

I typically do ornaments with the 1/4" tool only, using a 1/2" entry. The 3/8" tool will offer added reach for larger forms and I can make a straight tool if also needed. I have one of each of the 1/4" and 3/8" tool ready, just needing handles. Price of a straight tool in 3/8" is $55 handled, plus shipping. Pm me if you have more questions and want to set up a phone call to discuss
All of these will use the same #1 or 6mm size cutter

Tim, do you ever use 3/8 square bar to make similar tools? Or flat bottom bar? Just wondering if flat bottom would offer better control.
Thanks,

Ray

Hi Ray, I will often rotate the tip of the tool a tad to increase or decrease how aggressive the cut is depending on wood I'm turning so round for this style cutter in hollowing fashion works for me. If someone really wanted one in square 3/8 or 1/4" I could do it but don't think it offers much advantage and may be a detriment on buggering up small openings. I do use small square shanked tools for some of my boring bars, but again, prefer flexibility to change angle of attack with round ones. Here's some of the small ones in 3/16 round and square versions.

Barry, I sent your 1/4" ornament tool on Saturday, Priority, so you should see it in the next couple days.

Update: I have one unhandled 3/8" swan neck tool as shown in thread with the 1/4" (6mm) cutter installed still available.

If anyone is interested in an ornament tool or 3/8" tool as shown here, swan neck or straight, handled or unhandled, just contact me. If I get enough requests, I'll do a batch of them, but will do one-offs if we both have the time.
Remember, these aren't just for ornaments. The very small head on the ornament tool makes it ideal for the initial cut inside any hollow form and the carbide works well to remove high spots if you're applying stone inlay to a piece and would prefer to turn it off without dulling your HSS tools.
