I've got a pile of wood that I need to get rid of...boss's orders. :cray:

Basically, in one picture, you can see that there are:
4 slabs that are 6" thick x 20" wide x 38" long.
One that is 8" thick x 20" wide x 38" long.
One that is 4" thick x 20" wide x 38" long with natural edge/bark.

In the other pic, you can see that there are a bunch of other pieces that have some natural edge and figure. Some is bowl/HF worthy, some is pen blank and bottle stopper stuff.

I'm not out to gouge anyone, just want a fair return. From what I've seen on Ebay, people want $8-10 and up per board foot for 10 x 10 x 3 blanks. Larger ones get even more. How about $3 a board foot? So, the four 6" x 20" x 38" slabs (by my calculations 31.66 BF) for $90. The other stuff will have to be guestimated. Again, I'm not out to nickle and dime anyone, just find this stuff a new home. There is some checking in some of the pieces, mainly the one I took a close up of...duh. But most of it is clean.

Some of the stuff is spoken for, but nothing specific, just so long as not ALL of it goes.

I'm very sorry, but local pick up only. I am not going to get into crating and shipping this stuff. I can load it into you truck. Or if you are close enough, we might be able to work out a delivery if you are getting multiple pieces for gas money.

Nice looking wood mike and it seems to be a great price but I think you are just a little out of day trip range for me.:yipee::yipee::pleasantry::yipee::yipee:

I'll gladly take those four mentioned, if somebody local could go pick 'em up and ship them to me!

Mike, if I lived close enough to pick this stuff up, I would have 'borrowed' it from you already!

I think you might do well to post some photos of some of the finished pieces out of this load… If this is the same tree that you sent me the cutoffs from, it's absolutely stunning wood!

If you don't get any bites and reconsider cutting/shipping some of this, I would be interested in the fat part of that piece on top of the 'figured' pile… It looks like a big burl chunk! I'm thinking something in the large FRB size!

Here's the story of this wood.

Some time over the summer, I was driving through Hagerstown...minding my own business (yeah right!) when I passed a house that had a tree removal company in the front yard cutting down this massive (easily 4+ foot diameter) maple. I looked in my rear view mirror HOPING there were cars behind me keeping me from stopping. Nope, no one as far as I could see. So, I pulled over. I stopped in and asked the home owner what was going on. He told me the tree has been going down hill for a while and it was time to take it before it fell. I asked if I could have some. He said not a problem with him, but I needed to talk with the company that was taking it down. I chatted with him and asked where it was headed. He said to the nearest place he could find. I asked where that would be. He said a place that would turn it into firewood. NO! I actually think I yelled that... I asked if I could take some...I have a 20' flat bed trailer. He asked how quickly I could get back. I said a little over an hour. He said you have one hour or this is outta here. I got back in one hour ;) and got the trunk. It was hollow (as most of the tree was), but there were salvagable parts. This is about 2/3 of what I got. I still have more to cut up. I took the trunk to my sawyer to mill up for me. hence the nice straight cuts. So, I have sawyer fees, gas, and time already into this stack. And I also had a friend there with me...hence some of it being spoken for. But that is only a couple of pieces...he's not really picky about which ones.

Well that's the story on this tree. It ain't firewood, and for that, I'm happy.

Another option may be to cut smaller chunks to order, to alleviate some of the shipping burden, if'n you decide to go that route...:i_dunno:

I've thought about and considered that. It just breaks my heart to cut big stuff into littler stuff. Each of those squared slabs could yeild two 18+" bowls plus two small bowls, with left over for pens and stoppers. But if I need to, I might have to just cut them into 12 x 12 x whatever to fit in flat rate boxes and ship 'em out...:cray:
 
Oh man that is some nice stuff. I missed this thread til now. If it were red it would look exactly like FBE. No wonder though they are 1st cousins. I've never even held a piece of AM. The burly piece in the last pic is real pretty. All of it is. I would trade a LFRB of some of your burly stuff for an equal portion of FBE if you interested when my turn in line comes.

Okay, local requests are coming in. I've sent out a bunch of PMs asking people to call me. While there is certainly an order (with people that have responded first kinda getting first dibs), I'm not going to make everyone wait around for days for the first person to get back to me.

This means if you are seriously interested, get back to me soon, please. It is only fair to everyone. Thanks.

If you are one of the ones that was interested in small pieces shipped, maybe at the end if there are one or two pieces left, I'll cut it/them up.

Thanks. Me, too! I'll be happy if I find people that can use it as big stuff. If I end up with extras, I might cut them up... I'll let ya'll know.

I didn't! The company that was cutting the tree down loaded it onto the trailer. My sawyer removed it with his skid loader...carefully and slowly...

hey mike just now found this thread amazing looking wood i hope what i got looks that good when i get it milled i got a boat load . hope you did well with that its beutiful congrades dave:good2:

Thanks, davduckman2010, I've gotten rid of most of it. What was left, I cut up into blanks. I sold a couple of the cut up blanks, and the rest are slowly being turned. Man, people passed up on some really nice stuff. Oh, well.

Come to think of it, I started to post those small blanks here, had some issues, then gave up. I might try again. Thanks for the reminder...
