This is a very hard, dense wood that, unlike padauk, retains its color with age (it DOES become a DARKER red though). Moderately difficult to work because of the density but the results are worth the effort. Bloodwood usually has a fairly subdued figure (but GREAT color) but occasionally it will show light-colored streaking. This can be seen particular well in my bloodwood item #6

7/8" x 7" x 12 1/8" Nice "standard" bloodwood with fairly uniform color and noticible, but not pronounced, grain lines.

Please see http://www.woodbarter.com/showthread.php?tid=90 for my barter interests

Paul, I'm getting ready to take an online inlay class that bigcouger is offering and I need some bloodwood for the project. Its the only species for the project that I need. I'm interested in this piece. I dont really think I have anything to offer in trade for it though. I do have some curly maple to trade but I'm assuming you dont need any of that. If you would be interested in selling this piece, please let me know. If not, no big deal, I understand your more interested in trading for more wood, just thought I would ask before I drive up to Woodcraft this weekend to see if they have any in stock.

I'll be happy to trade or sell. I don't really need curly maple unless it's spectacular. You sure you don't have anything else?

I'll have to look up what I paid for bloodwood and get back to you and if no trade, there will be shipping cost as well.

I dont think I have anything that you would be interested in. I have several different domestic species but they arent anything spectacular. I'll go out to my wood stash and see what all I have this weekend and post it and you let me know if theres anything that interests you. I dont think I have anything that would "add" to your site though.

The curly maple I have is nice and curly but I wouldnt call it spectacular or special.

Get back with me on a price including shipping to 43123 and I'll let you know what I have to trade just in case.

So I went out to check and see what all I have and I really dont have much. Some of it I cant identify. This particular lot was purchased as a mixed lot from a sawyer and I initialed every board as I loaded it and he told me what it was. Some of my marks are gone. The ones I can identify are documented well on your site but they are, cherry, tulip poplar, red maple, white elm and one that I labeled HB and dont recall what it was. I have one piece of something that may be cherry but it is very dark and much heavier than all the rest of the cherry that I have. One piece of what I think is red oak with some minor spalting on one end. There are several others that I cant read the marks and cant identify. I do know they are all domestic woods from OH but again, none of this is "spectacular". Let me know if you need any dimensions or pics of any of this. Thanks.

One of these days I'll get all the unidentified ones to the planer and post some pics on your ID forum!!
