1 7/8" x 1 7/8" x 10 1/2" nice big stick with one of those color-changes that happens in cocobolo heartwood (the lighter part is NOT sapwood).

Please see http://www.woodbarter.com/showthread.php?tid=90 for my barter interests

As you know I have many species so tell me what you want. Your wish list is just a bit vague for my simple mind.
Thanks

how about a variety of catalpa? Since the whole point of it will be to take pics for my site, I'd like different grain patterns, pieces don't have to be big --- 3/4 x 4" x 8" is big enough, and however many such you think is a fair trade.

Paul, did you ever complete this deal and get your Catalpa samples? As you probably have read here, I have a bunch.

NUTS ! I did not, but it was entirely my fault. I'll get back to JMC and if he doesn't want it (after I've delayed so long) I'll be happy to trade w/ you.

Paul- don't worry about trading away the Cocobolo if he wants it; I have all this Catalpa and I want you to have a sample for your website. If you have any scrap to trade, that I can make 6x3x1/2" samples of, for my samples collection (see the gallery 'Collector's Samples' for what I already have) I'd be happy to trade you a small box for my catalpa.

I sure don't want to butt in here but an idea that might work, Paul has a * bunch* of veneer, and unless you need end grain samples too, veneer makes great samples and you can get a lot more of them that way than regular chunks of wood.

It's not 'butting in!' That's an idea, and if all he has, maybe, but my samples are going in a box/case to be displayed, and 1/2" thick is the norm for collector's samples. I'll wait and see what he offers. But thanks for the idea.

Aside from the cocobolo, perhaps you could consider starting a new set of samples, with the new ones being veneer. I can give you dozens of species if you are interested. I haven't heard back from JMC re whether he still wants the cocobolo.

Well, do you have rather thick veneers that would stand up to handling as samples? If it is really thin veneer, I think I'll pass. Have you any more Staghorn Sumac? Or any 4/4 boards of unusual wood you'd like to give up? I'm really pretty open to a trade. If collector's samples won't work, do you have other boards for trade?

Edit: I went back to look through your 'basement shelves' on another post, and I changed my mind. I know someday soon I'll want to do showy boxes, so when you say "dozens of species of veneer" I should just say "Hooray!" and put them away for later. Are you talking your 12-1/2" samples? So yes, I know you'll give all good things I can use, so let's do that. Question is, how much catalpa do you want? I'll try to find some special grain, and include a thick piece for end grain for your photography. Do you want the two 11" x 5-1/2" x 1-3/4" boards I've listed on Catalpa for sale? No one else seems interested in them. Let me know what you'd like in the Catalpa for the trade, and we'll go from there. Lots of species of your veneers will be just fine. I'm sure I can find a use for them down the road, on boxes, or sandwiched between cut pieces of bowl blanks as you suggested on the other thread. Thanks!

Paul, you did'nt drop the ball, I just did'nt have catalpa with figure, only had 1 flat sawn piece on hand with bark.

Well, I'm not looking for figured, I'm looking for variety. I really would prefer several pieces from different logs, even more preferably from different trees. I want representative piece, not specially nice pieces.

So ... if you just have the one log, I think I'll pass. Thanks.

As I mentioned in the previous post to JMC, Well, I'm not looking for figured catalpa, I'm looking for variety. I really would prefer several pieces from different logs, even more preferably from different trees. I want representative piece, not specially nice pieces. As much as possible, I'd like at least 3/4" thick so I can do end grain shots.

As to how much, why don't I just put up a box of mixed veneer (and no, I don't have any thick stuff ... it's VENEER, not thin-wood) and when you get it you can decide how much catalpa to send.

PM me with your address.

Paul

Okay, will do. I can give you different logs, but it's all the same tree.

Paul's box of veneer samples arrived today, and such a huge variety! Each sheet is meticulously labeled with a sticky note, which had to take a lot of time, and is appreciated. I'll be taking Paul's advice and using some of these for accent lines inserted into bowl blanks, and save some for box tops. Thanks, Paul! I'll be getting together a representative selection of catalpa and get it off to you by Monday.

Here's the catalpa that Barb sent for my veneer. Nice batch and will make a good addition to my site. Thanks, Barb.

Glad that would work for you, Paul. I tried to get representative pieces, and a bit of bark there, too.
