Good Morning,

I am parting with a large natural edge cocobolo burl slab I have had in my collection for sometime, but little use for. This is not a misprint, this is Mexican cocobolo burl. Not the more common Honduran Rosewood or any other rosewood, no BS here like I've seen with a lot of other cocobolo burls for sale recently. This piece was cut back in the early 90's.

Enough rambling, the piece measures 19" long x 9.5" wide. It is mostly 2" thick, but gets up to 5" thick around the burl clusters. No checks, bug holes, or voids. She is rock solid. The lower end of this slab had exceptional pinning and curling in the burl caps and lots of figure around it when I carved it, as I suspect this one will.

Should fit in a game board box, will check ASAP. Looking to get $400 for it. Please message with questions.

I can see that it does have some potential for eye burl, but not much is my guess. It's a nice piece that I would like to have if it had some truly visible burl it could be worth your asking price. I'm not saying what I think it is or isn't worth here, but I will PM my offer. I think it's a risky buy so don't be offended at my offer just tell me to pack sand and no hard feelings. :nodice:

Kevin,
Appreciate your interest, I sent you a PM to discuss further. I've purchased many cocobolo burls over the years. They don't get visible pinning on the exterior as many other burls do, they tend to be large lumps packed with tiny eyes and lots of swirling. This piece still has most of its bark intact too. This has been my experience and yours may be different, but I have purchased, processed, and carved many cocobolo burls and this has been what I have found to be true.
Thanks for your input!
-Eric

I have bought cocobolo, as well as several other species, from Eric in the past. He has never been my cheapest source, but I've never been disappointed. I looked at this and wanted to buy it, but have a few too many other irons in the fire right now. Don't linger too long, though, I do love coco.

I told Eric what I intend to do with it. I want to resaw it into call blanks and the byproduct pen blanks for my new site. We are just trying to figure out the number of blanks we think we can get to see if it makes sense for me. We're discussing a partial wood/cash trade. Still trying to work things out.

Kevin, you better hope Tom doesn't have cash to burn on this piece, the 50/50 sap combo, and hybrid possibilities here make this piece very, very profitable.

Rusty you sure as heck ain't helping my cause lol.

Kevin, you are just lucky I don't cast blanks. You will make a good dime off this piece my friend, just saying...

Not irons in the fire. Cars in the garage.

Okay Rusty and Henry put your money where your mouth is I passed!

Eric you're a class act maybe next time.

Thanks @Kevin, I'm sure in the future we'll be doing a wood deal of some sort or another! To reiterate, this piece is still available for sale! Thanks for looking.

The slab will fit into a USPS gameboard box! PRICE DROP - $350 shipped. I would love to see this piece go to someone rather than sit around!!!
