Up for trade are 5 pieces of Rare Desert Ironwood, I would prefer to trade for eyeburl woods but I am open to almost anything (almost) If I can make some nice pen blanks out of what you want to trade to put in my Ebay store, I'm sure we can work something out!

It is Ironwood folks and may very well have a small crack in it, I have tried to cut out all the cracks but I'm not perfect.

Let me know what piece you want and what you want to trade, I am a bartering fool so speak to me !!! I'm up for about anything, well, Linda would say I've slowed down some, bui I'm not buying into that !!

the second BLMB is 3 15/16" x 3 x 2 1/2" thick.

Lastly is a completely sealed cherry burl with really nice figure, I have had it a year and it is green. its size is
5 1/2" x 5 1/2" x 3"

Thanks,
Tom

Hey Tom,
I sure wish that big leaf was a little longer, I need 5 1/2" for pen blanks, and the Cherry looks good too, I could get blanks out of that, what do you want in trade?

Hi Joe,
I would definately be interested in the top piece if you were so inclined!:hi2:
I have never worked with desert ironwood before, can you give me some info on how it works? Does it sand and cut well? Will it kill my bandsaw blade to resaw it? Any other info would be great, thank.

Tom,
I am so inclined! PM your address!

If I were you I would cut it on the table saw with a 24-28 tooth carbide blade, that's what I use and have no trouble but then I have an old cast iron Craftsman saw with a motor as big as my truck on it, you will get a fairly smooth cut despite the only 24-28 tooth and that cut will sand out with an orbital sander and 220 grit easy, this is extremely hard wood, it will not even float and has a density of about 1.2 and it will polish and look like glass!, the finish you see on the pieces I posted have been hit with the sander for just a few seconds to take most of the rough off and they have 1 light coat of Deft Lacquer to bring out the color so folks can see what they are getting.

Everybody tells me that when they burn it or turn it that it smells real bad but being the woodaholic that I am, I think they are nuts!

If I can help in any other way feel free to let me know!

Joe

I'm going to revise this trade a little, The top piece pictured has been taken, but the other 4 pieces will be all 1 group for trade, so you get 4 pieces of Desert Ironwood for ? What have you got you want to trade?

Let me know what you want to trade, I'm open to just about anything, I have Ironwood coming out of my ears and want something different! So talk to me folks, I'm old and I'm easy!!

Kevin,

Caught up? What is that? It is a term I am unfamilar with! Please explain caught up and don't let KOWEA have any input in your answer! Because it will take on an entirely different meaning I'm sure!!:gigglesign:

Joe and I are in the works on a trade for his DI. This is what I offered up.

Ohhh that curly Koa is calling me. How much of that you got left after this trade?

Sorry, I forgot to post what it was. You were right on the three and the other is polyanna burl. I have more of the koa, but Ive already cut it into scales for future knives. If yiu can believe it that is the least curly piece I have. I bought a couple blocks that had that tight curl all the way through. I can get some of the best koa around but its not cheap. A 2x6x1 will cost around 30 to 40! The only reason I let that one go is its only 7/8 thick and I need 1 inch

That amboyna is just awesome!!!! I have got to get my hands on some of that. I drool every time I see it posted but Ive never pulled the trigger on any, yet!!

Bassblaster, you should get some. IMO it is some of the best looking burl out there along with some of the Aussie burls like Red Mallee. It is a joy to work as well and smells good. The eye burl is really nice, but I almost like the other stuff as much. Here are a couple of pieces that Im sitting on for handles.

Kevin, here is some of the Koa just to wet your whistle! These aren't even wet so you can imagine what they will look like finished.

Received the Ironwood today Joe! Awesome stuff my man. Im grinding three big Camp Knives as we speak and one of them will be getting the Ironwood for sure...if its big enough to fit the handle.
