My buddy in Kenya sent this to me today. Some flavor of ebony. Super heavy and dense. Now to figure out how to process it when I get it home. He said he has a couple others he should be getting soon for me. I'm hoping they are more round and bigger in diameter so I can fulfill a trade with @barry richardson I've not been able to complete my end on yet. This one doesn't have alot of checking, but the checking it has seems deep and wide so hopefully the new pieces will have less checking and be more turnable. I really want to get one Barry can turn a hollow form or something like that out of. Thanks for looking!

@barry richardson What do you think of this one? It might be long enough to cut the bigger section of checks out. Its pretty long. I dont have it in hand yet but it should be coming back here soon. He sealed it up with wax after taking the picture.

Hard to tell diameter but, unless Barry wants it whole, u might be able to rip it down the pith ?
Im not real sure how he intends to use it but requested a piece 12 inches in length approximately so I assumed hollow form maybe. I really dont know for sure though. Ive been asking for fresh cut pieces so my buddy can immediately seal it before the checking gets too horrible. This one looks semi-fresh but still not quite just cut.

That looks great Josh! I really wont know what to do with it till I have it in hand, and then I probably still wont:sarcastic:. It would be great to have the full round, but feel free to make it shorter if necessary so it is not such a pain to ship....

I'm not quite sure how long that log is or how heavy. I also want you to feel like you got a fair trade. I was planning on shipping it back whole and praying it doesn't check too badly in the process. Haha I'll have to see how big it really is when I get it back here. I may be able to get it by wednesday. I might be able to get you one more piece aside from this log. It depends on what my friend can scare up down there haha

Based on your prior experience with USPS, I'm a bit concerned. Chuck
Thats the only way im going to be able to get it back. Its the only package ive had trouble with. I think a smaller package will probably make it. Ill give it a try at least!

Tell em it's decapitated voodoo doll heads n bodies of thieves...then it'll make it to the states no problem. :sarcastic:

Your log arrived today. I have to go pick it up tonight then I can post the measurements for you and hopefully send it to you this week.

@barry richardson how does this look? It's about 21 inches long and mostly about 6 inches around. It's a really freaking heavy log. Has checks at both ends but I think they might only go a few inches deep on either side. Though I can't tell through the wax. Has some nice bumps on the outside (might have something interesting on the inside, IDK) might still be a little wet. If this works for you I will start trying to figure out how to ship this baby.

So I found some strong cardboard to ship the log in and some of the bark was flaking off so I stripped it off just in case there were any bugs under it and this is what I found. The log is twisted with some burly clusters and I believe the wood will have some figure in it. I spent a couple hours listening to a book on tape and waxing up all cracks with some beeswax, a butterknife and a lighter haha so hopefully it doesnt check any more because right now the cracks are minimal for ebony. Hope to get it out this week sometime!
