**ENDED** EKG Pens . . .

I'm not anywhere close to a pen master so I'm really not sure. All I do is turn and finish regular wood blanks. I don't even have alot of experience with acrylics.

This is a start. Avery labels once I get a good look. I can wrap the decal around the tubes and cast them in resin. Once they are casted I can turn and polish them. @Kevin

@Kevin does the ekg wrap all the way around that pen? The labels I have aren't printing out very good. Not clear enough the one you have you though is from the real EKG paper? If @JR Custom Calls could get some real EKG paper or whatever it is made out of. I could do a trial run and see if it would glue and cast up good.

I'll ask tomorrow and see if it's possible. If not, I'm sure you could just go to the emergency room complaining of chest pains, then ask for the EKG when they're done... haha

@David Seaba
Check into waterslide decals. This would give you what your looking for. CA finish can be applied over top of it. Let it dry for at least 24 hrs before applying the CA.

You could probably do a waterslide decal over a painted tube then cast it. Or you could turn down an acrylic blank apply the waterslide decal on the acrylic and then CA over it. Or you could apply real EKG paper to the tube and cast it like has been suggested. Given the vibrance of the coloring in that blank I don't know if it is real paper though

Here's where I got the pics. I didn't want to post the link because once the listing ends this link will eventually die but for now y'all can see it . . .

EKG Pen

I'd be surprised if you have much luck with real EKG paper because the tracing may be too large to show well on a pen barrel. I think you may be better off with a computer graphic of an EKG. The background varies considerably from study to study, so you shouldn't feel married to that exact background.

I could probably come up with some actual EKGs... Hell, I never know what to do with them anyway!

EKG paper is generally thermal (At least it was the last time I had one) so if the resin process or the turning generates a lot of heat it'll possibly turn black. I played a little myself with the laser and I could laser it onto a lighter blank or even a blank dyed pink....... But I don't know how I'd get the grid.

Yeah JR, what you would have to pay for the emergency room, EKG and radioligist to read it, they should give you a pen made from it free.

Most likely this is a decal using something like Sure Thing Decal Maker software (you can get it a hobby lobby or other such stores) Then sealed with multiple layers of CA. The listing says it's on acrylic so my bet is he underturned it used the waterslide decal then coated it in CA up to diameter. I have decal making software just haven't played with it yet....Well I guess I know what I'm going to finally try to use during my upcoming vacation.
link added so you all can see the software I'm referring to.

yeah has to be inkjet for the casting. something about how the laser attaches the casting will def not work or muddy the image.

do inkjet on labels over painted tubes with the barry gross casting kit. i think 27/64 tubes or bigger the bigger sierras probably will look the best.

Now those are just flat out cool and I would love to have a half dozen of them for the Doctors and nurses that take care of Linda!! So if anybody makes them Please keep me in mind for a few, I'll trade DIW or cash if I have it for some, of course after Kevin and the others in line before me.

I just ordered the Decal Scaling Cd that Adrian pointed out. I need it for some other decal work I want to do. I have the decal sheets - just need a good EKG design to print. I would like to give it a try...plus if is a good way to pry some of that crazy DIW from Joe, I am really motivated now!

I would think this would be a no brainer - done a few custom pens that I printed out a picture from the web onto an Avery label on my inkjet printer - adhered it to a painted tube and clear cast it -

Thanks for the link!

Hey guys, the guy that made these is actually a member here on the Woodbarter and a friend of mine. I'll let him know y'all like these and he could possible let the cat out of the bag on how he made them.
