Up here in Wisconsin/Minnesota at least, Bur Oak has a unique 'caramel' color to it, a little different than white oak.
I really like the way it finishes.
Any sort of figure/irregular grain/crotch is even better.
I'm working small, 3"x8" in that thickness.
Thank you!

Hi! Well I'll tell you, I did come by some nice 2" white oak over the weekend, that's just very dark and curly even toward quilted a little, I was pleased with that.
And the DNR took down a small burr oak, where they're fencing in for bison, and left it. So I snagged a length of that.
So, I found a few things, thanks. Still always looking for burr oak though.

Howdy, it is Dakota County Parks doing it, near Hastings. Called Spring Lake Park Reserve. There was a Schaar family farm that looked down on the river from a high bluff, they wanted it to go to the county for park purposes. I think that happened 30 years ago or so. A lot of nature in that stretch between St Paul and Hastings.

I have several bur oak crotch slabs about 24" x 24/30" and 2" thick that I'm not going to use. I could cut them up in sizes you might use, or cut them down to fit in a shipping box. There is some cupping so if you kept them at the full size, you would not get a 24" flat square piece. I've attached pictures of three of them, with one where I've cut off the live edge. Not sure how this should be priced but let me know if you're interested an we can figure something out.

Thank you for posting, these are great.

I need a couple more days to look at what I have here: to cut into a few pieces.
I'd like to get back to you by the weekend.

Looking at yours, my idea was to start with the bottom one. Possibly cutting it in two across the grain: two 12x24 pieces. Too thick for the 24" USPS box. But maybe UPS?

Here in MN I paid $6 bd/foot for nicely figured white oak recently. So, that's about where I'm at for price.
Those are my thoughts, thanks again,
Cliff

Sounds good. I won't do anything until I hear from you, except maybe check alternative shipping options.

Yes, I would like to have one of these slabs. The top one, is great.
For shipping, is it possible to trim that to approximate the bottom one, then halve it? It is OK to lose the live edge.
Let me know your thoughts, thanks again, Cliff.

Yes, I can cut it that way. I haven't gotten UPS shipping boxes yet, so I'll do that first so l know how to cut to get the maximum wood. I'll check with you before I cut. Thanks.

Ups large flatrate, 1728 cubic inches any combination of measurements. The size is to the outside of the packaging rounded up to the nearest inch.

I think if I cut the slab along the pink chalk marks I can make it fit in a box -- which I will need to construct. But doable, I think, though I haven't weighed it yet. Will this work for you? Slab with shipping cut marks 3-1-22.webp

Hi!
Yes, that is just right for me.

Thank you, and hope the box isn't too much trouble, I appreciate it. Cliff

Can you send me your mailing address via private message? Not sure how that works on this site.
