I decided to list my 6" amboyna cube on ebay to see what's going on over there. Every now and then - like once a year or even once every 2 or 3 years I will list something just to see what's up. Well I'll tell you what's up - the damn fees are OUTRAGEOUS!

I listed it at a price I know it won't sell for, but I used the fee calculator to see what the fees would be if it sells for the asking price of $475 and fees come to FIFTY FREAKING BUCKS!!!

No wonder wood barter is growing. I had no idea they are raping people like this. How does anyone sell there routinely?

And best of all you get to pay commission on the shipping . I occasionally buy on ebay if it is the best price I can find, I have stopped selling I never did sell much now I sell none. CL, WB and working on doing a website.

I've been a member since 2002 and have sold less than 150 - 200 items I bet and most of that was iosat radiation pills during the Fukashima scare.

Sounds like you may be a bit of an opportunist. Just so you know I never thought profit was a dirty word.

I've never thought profit was a dirty word. Rape, like feebay - that's a different story. Makes me wonder why places like feebay and google do not have stiffer competition than they do.

I haven't sold on ebay in at least 3 years. I was thinking of doing it again to try and boost traffic to my website but haven't gotten my site stocked again since deleting all the items last year. Etsy seems to be a good place to sell items that will make their way into a hand crafted item. Guys there sell wood and supplies in their stores from what I have seen. Their fees are much less than ebay as well.

To date I have mainly used CL to drum up local customers but I am considering running ads in my local paper later this year in addition to the CL ads.

I know!!! If I order something...ANYTHING from Ebay (in the USA..there is an automatic "import fee" of 25% of the price paid PLUS shipping. It is absolutely ridiculous. I was going to get my wife some Uggs winter boots @ $200 so it would have been 2oo for the boots, $50 for "import fees" plus a crazy shipping, so it isn't worth buying frm there at all.
 
I buy there all the time- lights. Auctions as a whole normally have large fees. Lots of them have buyers fee- buy something for a $100 and they add 15%
They have their place- when silver hit $50 ounce I loved selling my 10 ounce bars for almost $600 apiece- I paid $50 where else do you find such a huge market.

Thanks Buddy!! look up sterling silver- I think there are a half million pieces listed. Where could you find that many or open yourself to that many buyers. when I sell there I make price High enough I do not really care. time is money- if you want to sell quickly there is a price for that.
 
$475 for 216 cubic inches comes out to $2.20/in3. How about $2.50 for one cubic inch from the exact center of that cube?!:sarcastic:

No problem guap I can let you have it for free - just sell the other 215 CI surrounding it for me, and it's all yours I'll even pay shipping.

I actually had a member here who knows amboyna quite well tell me it is price at or a little below market, si I maybe should pull the advert because I don't really want to sell it.

I just got what you meant by that. I'm slow but I eventually get it . . .

No I wasn't an opportunist at all I sent most of my own pill packs that I have for my family to Japan at cost and some I donated who's families I had personal connections with still, and the ones I sold on ebay were far below what the real "opportunists" were asking - and getting. I got more than several hate messages on ebay too from those who were taking advantage of the Japanese people during that nightmare and it pissed me off to see it, which is why I tapped into my cases and gave away and sold them mostly at cost. I used ebay to fund my charity and make no apologies for it.

Touchy subject my friend. Who tried to help them at all profit or not?

In additon to Fleabay honking you hard on fees the dispute system totally favors the buyer and not the seller. The last time I listed something (A camera for parts only, very clearly listed as non working) some idiot in a hurry who thought he was getting a deal on a working one disputed the heck out of it, I ended up having a refund to him forced out of my paypal and he never did send it back to me.
