I started cutting up my confederate civil war gun stocks this eve. Here are some cut offs that I can't use for pens so I thought I would give em away to anyone who thinks they could use em fir the cost of shipping. I'm pretty sure they could be cast. They are walnut but because of the age they are pretty brittle. If nobody takes em I will add them to the union stock cutoffs when I cut those and post a new thread.

Do you think stabilizing would help the brittleness? Might be a dumb question

Guess I should say can they be stabilized, which also might be a dumb question haha.

I just turned 2 pieces unstabilized and they turned really nice.... only problem was they smelled kinda bad... old actually like they were in an attic or basement for a 150 years. :sarcastic: They should cast just fine
 
Ah, I'll take them, won't be able to send the payment until tomorrow sometime, heading to bed and have a long day of traveling tomorrow.
 
Dang, cool stuff. I am huge civil war buff. If you get any more pen blanks esp confederate hopefully you'll post it on here, I would for sure be interested.

I have 2 union stocks to cut up into pen blanks yet I will give those cutoffs away also. I'm likely not going to sell any of the blanks but would be happy to make a pen for you from any of the 4 different types of civil war wood I have. I can either trade you the pen or sell it out right. Send me a pm and we can talk about it further.
 
As much as I would appreciate the cutoffs I have no way to cast and they probably be best going to someone who has that ability. I'll send you a pm on the other stuff. Thanks!
 
I would be very interested in trading for a Confederate pen. I don't cast either, so I didn't reply to the first posting of the wood. Let me know if that's an option. Thanks, Tony
