i have some really figured wood, but need black and white ebony! can anyone help out! the black and white ebony has to be kind of split half and half black and white. the blanks i have are more on the black side and have a customer that wants both!!

This is the only piece I have that I'm aware of, and I'm kind of partial to it. It's 1.5 x 1.5 x 9.875

But if it'll work for you I might be persuaded.

It's pretty but I have some oak burl and it don't really crumble my cookie anyway. I kind of don't want to get rid of this but I showed it thinking you might come with something really dazzling or exotic. What else you got?

Oh that's very pretty. What is the size?

The only thing that concerns me is that it looks like it will not stay together during the turn - looks like a lot of ingrown bark what do you think? The wood is sure enough pretty though and appeals to my eye but do you have any solid pieces?

let me get a few of the slabs out, and saw them up. it will have to be later today or tonight as i am in the middle of doing a solid oak floor:clapping:. I def. see your concerns, but i do have a ton of that so i will saw them up and hopefully get a nice solid piece for you. i have one in my kiln right now, just a test piece to see what happens, hasn't cracked yet:shok: dropped significantly in moisture content!
thanks jeff

here is a chunk 10" x 1.75x 1.75 this is def a much more solid piece. i can't stress tho on how green it is. i have the one in the kiln if you would like to look at that one, but this was cut from a fairly large chunk and is very very wet! from what i can see there is no bark inlay on this one, let me know if you are interested?

Oh yes I like that very much. I like it beter than the ebony even because it's busier. Please seal it very thick all the way around with wax before you ship it. If you don't have wax use shrink wrap (saran wrap works well too) and I'll dip it once it gets here. I will package your ebony and get it sent Monday.

Thanks Jeff you're good trader and member and much appreciated here. Glad we found a way to get your ebony that you need. :good:

I'll PM my address do the same please.

Cool no problem. But if you ever get a mill like you're dreaming of you'll stop buying the colored and buy translucent only. As a sawyer you want to see that end grain so the log can tell you how it wants to be sawn.

If I wasn't a sawyer I probably would use a system like too. Instead I use a mositure meter and a pencil to write the date on the wood (like I do that co nsistently :dash2: )

.

Hey BD, wanna swap another piece of that maple burl? I got some real nice white oak burl I could trade!!!!!!:yipee::rofl2:

i think this is the last bucket i am going to buy with pigments. i have a decent system of dating my woods, but when you have so many burls and highly figured wood sawed up, in the same location it is hard keeping the years apart from one another! next batch will be clear for sure! i have a lot of high end timber i have to cut up and need a solid sorting method of doing so! any suggestions. can you put tape under the wax with the date and type? will it hold and still show the writing?

I definately like it!! Havnt turned any yet. Just got a new grinder for my lathe tools so I have been busy working on my sharpening station for the past few days. Should be done by tomorrow so I can get back to turning things and have sharp tools to do it!!

if i have that piece of walnut i will check the moisture content on it and see if its an issue for you? just pay for the shipping

Thanks man but its allready taken care of. Ive decided to turn a temporary handle from a piece of maple that I saved for another tool. I'll use it untill I mill up and dry some walnut that I have here and then the maple handle can go to the other tool. I definately appreciate the offer though!!!
