Hey Paul, I looked through your wood for trade and didn't see anything I had to have. The veneer sounds interesting. What type, size and qty are you thinking?

Thx

Eric

I've got about 100 species but they're all cut down to 12.5" long. If that's not a problem for you then as for amount, whatever you think is reasonable.

Paul

Paul,

Sounds fine. I am thinking of using some veneer in a few bangles so 4 x 4 sizes would be fine. An SFRB with whatever qty of veneers you think is fair works for me. Send me a PM and I will get the wood shipped off to you.

Thanks

Eric

Hey Eric,
If you an Paul don't strike a deal I may have something of interest to you.

Chris, I have a little more of the plum. I just need to dig it out of storage and see how it is fairing. What are you thinking?

Eric

How about a cast bangle core. We can do cholla, pinecone or acorn caps. I think you know what the Cholla and Pinecone look like but here is a pic of the acorn caps. Does not have to be just plum I am open to anything with nice figure.

A cholla bangle core works for me:treehugger:. The larger piece of plum is still available, did you want the whole piece?

Eric, I just sent you off a really nice mix of veneers ... lots of different colors and grains including some burl and crotch stuff. I'm sure it'll make some nifty bangles.

Paul, I got the monster box of veneer and it was packed full :yipee:! Thanks for the great trade. I sent off the purple leaf plum and it should arrive soon. It will need some Anchor Seal or wax to be safe. Plum seems as touchy as Holly :wacko3:

:thanx:

Eirc,

Sorry to be SO long posting my end of this trade. Stuff came up.

Very nice piece w/ some beautiful ray flakes on one surface. Made for some nice pics for my site so I'm happy. I stupidly left it out overnight outside your excellent wrapping and after you VERY specifically told me to immediately coat the ends. Not surprisingly, I got some end cracks but I think they're not too deep.

Anyway, nice piece.

I DO have to point out though that you should have mentioned in your description that 1" of the 4.5" width was made useless by a deep bark inclusion that runs the whole length diagonally along one edge. Since I'm mainly using it for pics, that's not a big deal to me, but if I had been planning something using the size you listed I would have been in for a big disappointment. You DID mention bark inclusions in a different piece, so I'm surprised you didn't mention it for this piece.

The color in your pics was also quite a bit different than the wood, but some of that was 'cause you moistened it for the pics (and said you had), and I know how hard it is for most folks to get accurate color pics. Here's a comparison. Full set of pics is on my site.

Paul,

Thanks for your post, I thought since I hadn't heard back for a while that something was not well on your end. I will make it right, tell me what I owe you for the veneer and I will send you a refund.

In fairness, you did use a picture that was not from this thread. The pic on the left was taken in march, just after the plum was cut. I took new pics and started this thread with those pics. A cut and paste from your website says:

" This is just another good example of how really badly some people represent their wood. I knew when I traded for it that it was not either of these colors and the real color when it showed up was no surprize. " (http://www.hobbithouseinc.com/personal/woodpics)

I don't think I misrepresented this wood as I did not use the pic on the left for this thread. Sometimes trades go well, sometimes they don't. My apologies for this one being less than ideal. Again, tell me what I owe you and we'll put this one to bed.

Thanks,

Eric

Eric,

You're overreacting. I said I was happy w/ the trade and I am. You must not know yet what an Ahole I am about wood pics

Fair enough. It is hard to buy and sell things sight unseen. Lesson learned and I will work to improve my photos for future trades. Paul, just to show no hard feelings, I will send you some Salt Cedar when I get a few large trees cut down. It usually has some interesting color.
