Hi Guys,

Still new to this site and wanted to get an idea of what people are willing to trade for some nice exotic burl wood. I primarily deal in Amboyna burl and Honduran rosewood burl. I was wondering if there were any knife makers out there that would like to trade a knife for some nice material. Also open to any other offers of some cool handmade stuff so feel free to barter away. No pens please as I've got plenty of them :dash2:

this pic is an example of some of my material.

Thanks and happy bartering.

Matt

Just out of curiosity, what are the dimensions of one of the burl cap quarters? And if you were selling it, approx price?

Thanks.

There are some amazing Knifemakers on here. I have a knife from Chris @ KFUKnives and it sits atop a box on my dresser. One day I will make a display for it. I expect they will have 1st dibs because that was a specific request from you.

That said, would you be interested in some Christmas Ornaments and/or Bottlestoppers made from the your Burl? IF so I would be interested in some solid whole live edge and maybe a block or two.

Here are some pics of some of my Ornaments. I can't find pics of my stoppers but I have a few that I will be polishing today to send to some WB members.

Those ornaments are very nice, but I've got quite a few already from some local turners...though yours do look nicer. Let me think about it. Thanks

It depends a good deal on the quality & figure of the burl piece. A piece like the one shown in the pic above of the rosewood at center is approx 6" wide x 6" tall x 1 1/8" and highly figured with nice burl eyes. A piece like this would sell between 50-60.../\\
Thanks, Matt

Pretty stuff, Matt! I've got a fair bit of rosewood burl already, but I'm always happy to turn stuff for folks in trade. With burl like you've shown, I've usually requested two pieces of wood, and I'll turn and return a finished piece to the sender. I mostly do hollowforms but can turn other stuff. I've got a couple of finished pieces in the turners' section here if you want to take a look.

Nice Trade stock every one pretty stuff. I make Predator and crow calls. And been stabilzing trade stock all week. I need 1 1/2 or thicker. Again great trade stuff every one. Rick

Nice burls!!!

I'd be interested. I'm looking for something like this for my Dad that he could use as a pen case. What are the dimensions and what size pieces would you need? I also have extremely nice redwood burl that you might like. Let me know what's fair, Matt

12"x9"x5.5" give or take. They are all a little different. I traded a walnut one here for $150 worth of burls. That is about what I put them on consignment for. Everyone says too cheap but my motive for making is to stay busy. Retired.- Picture is inside of 2 that are gone. But this is what they look like.

If you do get one of Mikes boxes I have some liners that I was given made to hold pens if you need them. No cost, just cover shipping. I am looking for some nice cigar boxes to use them in.

I could do that size in redwood burl that extreme high figure but not sure it's 5.5" tall, closer to 4.5", but certainly 12x9". Do u want some pics of it? A piece that size in amboyna would is worth a good deal. $400 easy. Let me know if you're interested?

Matt, I am for equal trade- I was answering your question of size of box and should have specified that. I have access to redwood burl So that is not really on my need list.

My apologies. I've been reading so many different threads and wasn't thinking apparently about what you wrote relating to those dimensions. What size of burl piece and species ( rosewood or amboyna) would you like to trade for on of your boxes. I'm eager to get one as my dads birthday is October 8th and we're celebrating it next weekend. I can mill it and ship it out to you Friday. I'll let you pick the box you send. Whatever you think is the purdiest! I may have a hard time giving to him:biggrin:
Pm me the details and ur shipping address. Thanks, Matt

What about the turkey call ?

What does a turkey call sell for? What dimension do u need and what's a fair trade. I don't really know if I'd ever use one but I know I would appreciate your work so I'm interested. Let's barter:drinks:

Matt

Matt, You ask me to chose which box- I cannot do it- I have the affliction- my favorite is the one I have in my hands at the time. :yipee: I am the same with wood- my favorite is the one I am working with-but I must admit I am sorta partial to walnut. :walnut1950: So here is what I have- a picture of each type of wood I have left. there is soft maple-sycamore-white oak -ribbon mahogany and persimmon. Please do not hesitate to ask for more pictures.

I really like the one that's on the right that's in the first pic u sent of the last 3 pics u sent. Does that make sense? :wacko1: To the right of the curly maple.

White Oak- really knarly white oak. Heaviest by far of these group of boxes.
