**ENDED** Russian olive burl for Matt

Those really pop with some liquid on em! Nice looking stuff.

Just perfect! I'll post something for your consideration when I get the chance to dig some pieces out!

@norman vandyke

Norman, I got a chance to pull out some pieces and get some pics. If you want to see more angles of any piece, just let me know.

For your consideration:

Mesquite Burl (at least half sapwood)
Stabilized Redwood Burl

A1.webp

Then I could cut a piece from either of these three blocks to fit the remaining space in the SFRB.

Curly Sweet Gum
Cherry Burl
Ziricote

A2.webp

Splashed a little lacquer thinner on everything but the Ziricote to help show it off a little better. The Ziricote just looked black when I splashed the other side of this piece.

Let me know what you think. If nothing strikes you and you want me to keep digging, let me know. Thanks!

Those look great and the ziricote looks perfect. I really like the sapwood. I'll get Russian olive in the mail tomorrow. :-) I think I might have to try squeezing in a little extra though...

Sounds good! I'll cut a piece off the Ziricote to fit in the SFRB, in addition to the mesquite and stabilized redwood burls. I'll make sure to get some good sap in there and will make sure to avoid that crack when cutting your piece. Thanks!

Edit: I might use a flat rate padded envelope, if I have one on hand. That way I can maybe get you a little bit bigger portion of that ziricote.

Now that I've seen what you're sending me, I might have to use one too...

That's up to you, but I'm good with sending you that piece of mesquite burl, that piece of stabilized redwood burl, and part of that chunk of ziricote for what you pictured for me. ;)

(I like the padded envelopes because they cost about the same as a SFRB to ship and you can fit more stuff in them - just gotta make sure to reinforce the package with extra tape, lol!)

Just started using the padded envelopes last week and I realized tape was needed as soon as I started feeling the package and all the sharp corners that wanted to cut through. Lol

I usually put wood in the fiber type flat rate envelope first and then out them in the padded envelope. It keeps them from ripping through. Sometimes I double envelope them too just in case.

Got my wood from Matt today. Just gorgeous and awesome peanuts to boot! Thanks man!

Mine arrived today too - beautiful here too and awesome peanuts also! Thanks again!

BTW, Norman, my wife has already told me that I need to make her a fountain pen from a piece of the Russian Olive Burl and some other pen from one of the packing peanuts of Lilac Burl. Her pen requests lately have been mostly acrylics, so I'm looking forward to making a couple wood ones for her!

I completely forgot I put lilac burl in there! After my trade with Kevin, I only have two very short solid lilac burl blanks left and a bunch that needs casting or stabilizing or both and mostly shorts. Be sure to invite your wife you watch you make a lilac pen. Perhaps I should say, "smell" you make that pen. It smells like flowers when being worked.

Yes, there were two pen blank shorts in there! I'll have to remember to have her join me when I turn them for the sake of the smell.
