Ok, it is not happening! Nobody interested in buying spalted maple? How about a trade? I can supply about any dimension. 1", 2", 3", 4", or thicker. Anything to fit in the box of your choice. I will trade for Bowles, pepper mills, pens, boxes..... Just understand, this is not dry. It is fresh off the mill. Any proposals? image.webp

Ralph, I think that if you cut those thick slabs into sizes that will fit into a large flat rate box you would sell a bunch. Turners would like the thick stock for turning bowls, Green wet maple is so much fun to turn, cuts like butter. Cutting pepper mill size blanks to size is also a good seller. Not many folks will pay the shipping for slabs that size unless it is extremely special. That is a great stack of lumber there, you just have to show people exactly what you have for sale, take pics of it, and post them individually. Folks need to see what they are getting and for what price. Turning stock is always a seller on our forum and it is easy to ship. Just sayin..........

Thank you. I tried your suggestion in another recent post. No interest! Only recently have I tested the waters trying to sell wood, but the response has been underwhelming. It is not that I care that much. Just posting the pictures on the for sale forum and on the completed projects forum has been gratifying. It is fun to read the responses and to read what neat things others are doing. Selling wood is only a diversion for me. If it works, fine. If there is no interest, that is fine too. I have plans to build another super, wonderful workshop where I can use some of this stash. As with all of life's adventures, it is the journey not the destination that matters to me.

Ralph, I agree with Greg on this. When I was selling some large slabs shipping was nearly $100 on a couple of them and then you have to toss in the price of your wood.
Any more unless it's just plain beautiful as a slab I cut everything to fit in a flat rate box size, cut blanks or at the very least show pics of 2 good faces just to save a bunch of time haggling and it makes it much easier to get folks attention.
Awhile back I chopped up a bunch of elk antler into about 7-12 inch pieces and wanted a buck an inch. I feel if I would have cut standard blank length pieces they would sell in a very short time.

EDIT: Of coarse now I went and found your other posts.:blush-33:
Nice stuff, just give it a few days or so, someone will see it.

these guys are right on ralph . I have sold 15 large live edge slabs in the last 2 weeks 99 % were local buyers or some who traveled from neighboring states. the cost of shipping these is a deal killer most of the time. I have better luck selling them whole though. if there special they will travel to get them regardless. I put them on craigslist in different areas the phone and emails don't stop. and its free ebays sort of a waste of time very little sales to many fees:good2:

Damn! I thought I was going to make enough on woodbarter to buy a thousand acres of virgin timber! In another post with this stuff cut into a size to fit in a game box, there were 47 views and no replies and no interest, at a fair price. While the above comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated, I have come to the realization that very little of what I have to offer is in demand. I am not the slightest bit disappointed or upset. I intend to continue to visit woodbarter frequently, and you can expect more posts in the future. I doubt if I will try to sell anything though.

Personally I wouldn't say what you have to offer isnt "in demand".

It summer and people are out enjoying themselves alot more than having shop time.

Wait til winter or when the hunting seasons are a couple months away and you will see a surge in guys buying stuff.

Don't get discouraged! You're wood is fairly priced from what I seen and I'm sure in due time you will move some of it.

Ralph, sales seem to come in waves for whatever reason, give it some time and see what happens.
I think offering for trades is a great idea and really can help someone out.
Hang in there.

I surely hope you don't give up, what you have is nice. It's kinda as the other guys have said, timing. If I didn't have a pile of it myself I would be buying your turning stock. That stuff is a joy to turn green!

Thanks to all. What I plan to do with the remaining logs is to slice them into boards about 1" thick, or a little thicker, and get all this wood stacked and sticked so I can use it in the future for some projects I have in mind A few years ago I made two beds for my granddaughters from this spalted maple. They are really nice. The spalting looked like flames climbing up the bed posts. Of course, I will have the thick stuff around if anybody wants it.

Ralph,

I see on your tractor that you have an oval shaped slab. What are the dimensions, is it dry, and what do you need to get for it? I would be looking for it to be 2" or thicker. Thanks!

Geoff

I have not been on much in last couple months, so I missed your posts Ralph. I am interested in getting spalted maple blanks for turning projects. I have no way to deal with large planks of it though. I would need turning blanks. 3x3 min to 5x5 square varying lengths 6" min 10" max. or 4" min t0 8" diameter 3" to 10" lengths. Good spalting.

Got anything in that range?

Ralph, I'm just seeing this post - didn't get to check the forum much while I was gone and am now getting caught up on some of the posts I missed. I've been wanting to get some spalted maple with some good black line spalting for a project I'm going to be working on sometime. I'd love to do a trade for some spalted maple with some good black line spalt. Boards or a slab - whatever to fill a large flat rate game box (12"x24"x3"). I'd be happy to send you something finished in return. Got any pics?

I stacked and sticked all that lumber. It is not dry. Fresh off the mill and soaked. The dimensions of that slab are either 12" or 14 inches in width, 2" thick, and about 3 ft long. Would you prefer a rectangular slab to fit in a postal box, or do you prefer to have the whole slab. By the way, I threw some boric acid on those wet slabs as I stacked them to kill or prevent more bugs and worms, and beetles. Cost? Fearing the possibility that you might not be happy, I will send it to you for the shipping cost. If you are happy, you can send something (like a pen or something) to me, or $25, whichever you choose. If you are not satisfied, just use it for firewood and forget payment.

Can probably fill your order. See replys to others in this thread for cost. I have some 5" x 5" pieces about ten ft long. Can cut them into 12" lengths.

See the reply to Geoff in this thread. Same terms.

I can agree to those terms, but would be interested in first seeing some pics of a potential piece or board(s) that you'd be sending my way.
