Knife builders will not hesitate to pay those prices when they see something they want. I almost pulled the trigger on the Koa and have nothing to use it for. Except to feed my addiction. :biggrin:

I hear where you're coming from though. I see both sides of it.

These are knifemakers blocks but also can be used for pen blanks or gun grips. The prices are very reasonable. Believe it or not , as an example, some dealers sell curly Koa up to $90 a block for good figure. If I wasn't in the above mentioned arts, I would passed as well. Lol. The price is higher for a number of reasons- one may buy a large burl for instance, and out of that burl you may only have a very limited amount that would be considered " high quality blanks". There is also the wood stabilization that adds to the costs as well as the rarity of the wood. These blanks will apeal to a specific group of artisans who have specific uses for them.

Hello Joe, what are those pieces in the first photo- and sizes.
You got some beauties in all the photos. In general though, if I was to trade , I'd be looking for some blacksmith tongs that are able to hold some 1/8" flat stock, or forging hammers. Also, I would make a sweet deal on a hand crank forge blower. I did not list this thread under the trade forum however, so I don't want to break any rules. Im going to post some cherry burl and other wood up soon. I may trade or sell- either way, it will be very reasonable and it will be a bunch of non stabilized wood in a large USPS priority box. It's just some nice stock that I won't be using. Thank you Joe- Marekz

That doesn't break any rules Mark. It's cool to dicker/barter this way. We have the categories to have a starting point but we often end up getting suckered into a trade in the For Sale section because after all, we are all wood addicts and dangle some wood in front of us and it's better than money.

And remember you don't have to discuss details on the open forum, it's just for starting and ending deals. Feel free to PM/email/call any member you wish, just please start and end all deals on the forum. That's the only thing that will keep it alive, and that benefits everyone.
