Over the winter I had approached Dave about trading for some Chittium burl. He told me that burl hunting season wasn't til late winter and spring and that I had to wait a bit. (thats ok cause i had a little to tide me over) We both have our trade goodies ready to go now so we are starting a thread for ya'll to drool over. I have a few pieces of hickory burl for him set aside and a small semi load of burls that need to be processed. The semi load of burls is mixed between cedar, spruce, mystery burl, and some maple. Most of the bark is gone from these so there may be some surprises in store for me as well. We will be posting pix as per the rules over the next few days. We would both ask that requests for more material NOT be made in this thread. I have oodles of work to do on my end and he does as well. I know I will be in a position to sell/trade more of what I have in due time. @DRW I will post pix from my phone shortly

Ok here is my first set of pix. I have 1 more load coming yet so the pile is gonna grow a bit still. All together this pile could probably fill a shortie semi trailer. @Final Strut @Schroedc @rob3232 @Graybeard @dycmark this is the batch I told you guys I was working on during our gathering at Scott's shop.

I still need to snap pix of the hickory. And will post pix of those later. For now drool on this:sarcastic::treehugger::gotmywood:

Holy cow. What a freaking score. I would almost travel north of the Red River to get some of that.

Well we are planning another gathering in late spring or early summer maybe you could be our guest speaker???

I'd be honored. Just let me know when the speaker phone is set up and I'll make the call. :nodice:

What Colin said. I still think the funny part was how you mentioned getting a load of burls almost as an afterthought at Scott's shop. Everyone sort of stopped and said, What? Mr. Cool and all.

Looks like lots of work but fun stuff. Looking forward to what you come up with.

LOL I was having such a good time I almost forgot I had the deal in the works. It turned out to be an afterthought. :sarcastic:

Nice score Greg! I think drool would be an understatement:sick: Can't wait to see some of these up close:yipee:

Greg you're a sick sick man. You really probably don't have time to cut all that fire wood up. Just have them drop the next load at my place and I will get it chunked up and sell it to the campers in the area. We can split the firewood money.

Good score by the way. And yes it was hilarious how you were like oh yeah I am working on a SEMI load of burl like it was just another drop of yard logs.

I need to get a couple more pix up. The large piles of burls are getting separated and dead wood culled. Last week was Uber busy for me as I got ready for a craft show. This week I can focus on my WB transactions and get them all wrapped up. I rattled off a short list of stuff in a previous post did any of that catch your interest?

Up first is the hickory burl. 2 pieces are 1.5-1.75 square and 2 & 2.25 long. The next 2 longest at the same square and 4 & 4.25 long. The longest 2 are 7 &7.75 long. One has a crack that should be in filled with something the other long one has a few small checks that CA will take care of. 20150407_215018.webp 20150407_215002.webp 20150407_214944.webp 20150407_214932.webp

@DRW In addition to the pictured items above I have several cast call blanks available, redwood burl that I could cut to size (unless you wanted a very large 4" slab?) Big leaf maple burl, quilted maple, FBE, cherry burl, willow burl, and a good selection of figured/burled species good for flat work should one of your calls ever need a box or something :sarcastic:
