Brian, the ringed gidgee I want to use is not as big as you require it is only 1.25 thick closer to 1.20 but I wanted to show it to you - sure wish it was big enough....

Sooooo...... kevin....... wanna part with a piece of that ringed gidgee? Haha that stuffs fantastic! Haha I was going to order some from the timber joint but didn't pull the trigger in time. Have you turned any of it yet? I've heard it's hard as hell.

I am carving on a piece in case you haven't heard it is hard as hell lol. Doing a little here and there will post it if it turns out good if not I will dlete all evidence that I have claimed I am carving on a piece. :blush-33:

Josh I will send you a piece gratis. You can make my wife a pair of earrings if you want but not required. PM your mailing address - I know I have it but easier just to get again. :treehugger:

Josh BTW if you know what you're going to use this block for already you might want me to resaw it for you not sure if you have access to a band saw on base?

I haven't decided yet what to do with it, probably oogle over it for awhile when I get back haha. There's a bandsaw I can use in el paso when I get back when I decide to use it. I would be thrilled to make your wife some earrings! Just let me know what type and what kind of wood you want and I'll get some whipped up. I'll shoot you my address. Thanks Kevin! Sorry to ask for a piece but I've really been itching to play with a piece since it was mentioned on woodbarter. Beautiful stuff!

Okay I thought you wanted it sent to you there I will send it to Lynne. You can make the earrings when you get back no hurry. Since I'm sending the block to Ohio I might have to put in some peanuts. :nodice:

@Kevin , sorry I didn't see this sooner, the tag never showed in my alerts. What are the dimensions of the ringed gidgee? I can work it into one of the block planes as long as it is a solid 1" thick, 1.3" wide, and about 6" in length. Of course, that doesn't leave a lot of wiggle room, but those pieces don't look like they have any imperfections in them. That was the only reason I stated 1.5" square, was to allow for imperfections or massive out of square-ness. I bet we can get the gidgee to work, the choice is yours. I'm not too worried about hardness, as most of the critical jobs will be done on my little milling machine.

Let me measure them tomorrow to make sure I know the full 4/4 isd there plus some not sure about the 6 we will see. Brian I know you are in a hurry but my schedule is nuts roight now won't even try to describe. If I don't get it to you by monday I can wait until you tool up again even if next year. Will shoot for monday though.
 
Kevin, if your schedule is crazy, don't worry about it. I have 3 little ones, so I understand a crazy schedule. No pressure from me. I've got another project coming up that will probably take a couple weeks, but I should be able to get back to this then.
 
Since I am still new to this site, if I wanted to post updates about my end of the trade, would I do it here or in a new thread? I've just got a couple pictures of the progress I am making that I thought I might share.

Do it here - you dont want a trade spread out over many threads. I am back home now and should be all weekend so will be catching up on things. Unless I have to go back oit of town grrrrr
 
Alright, this photo is where I ended this evening. All structural work is done, now it is really just making it look pretty and putting infills in it. I avoided breaking a tap, which is good. It's sad that there are so many hours into it at this point and it doesn't really look all that fantastic. Oh well, the most important work is done. Let's just say that lapping steel is not my favorite task.

@Kevin here is an update of where the plane stands. I have done the cutting and shaping and the rough lapping of the sole. A little more tweaking and it will be ready for wood whenever. I also decided I have enough steel and aluminum that I started making another couple since I already have the bedding angle jig and milling machine set up. These are fun, but a lot of work. Here we are as of a day or two ago:
