Dave the Super Duck's thread got me to thinking. My wife and I have very little time to turn anything right now, and although I plan to be able to turn some more mills soon, I'd like to have several dozen stoppers for gifts by Christmas. I need 3 or 4 turners who want to trade wood for stoppers.

I wouldn't expect many stoppers in return for the wood, because you got to furnish the stoppers and do the turning and finishing. I want to hear from turners who are willing to make this trade, and let me know how many stoppers you might be willing to send in return for a LFRB of beautiful wood.

I can post pics of the actual boxes of wood but let's get the conversation going first. One thing that has to be in the deal though, everyone I make a deal with, has to agree to send Dave the Super Duck one stopper too.

:yipee::yipee::yipee:

Any takers?

I am down with that. How many stoppers would you like for the LFRB? I have a some Stainless Steel Stoppers that I'm using. I am already making Dave some stoppers so I will toss an extra stopper in there for him too. I will stabilize the blanks for you as well and apply a nice thick coat of CA polished to glass. To be honest, I really like making stoppers. They are a good break from the mundane.

I'd be interested in a possible trade. I am finally caught up on all me trade calls.

Wow. Stabilized too? That's awesome. I'll just send you a box and you can send me a stopper or two whatever you feel is fair. I'm totally not greedy and I trust you so it's all good with me.

Another box of wood coming your way if this sounds good to you. All I ask is you send $1 to my PP addy which you have, and make sure to write in the comments section what it's for. If this is acceptable we have a deal. If not make a counteroffer I am almost certainly going to accept. These are going to be "drops" but perfect for stoppers. :ok:

Sounds like a winner to me boss, PP sent. I like to stabilize any wood that will come into contact with water or moisture even if it does not "need" to be stabilized. Do you like just wood or would you like on w/ an embedded object like pinecones or cactus or something different cast in resin?

I'm just leaving it up to you. I'll be happy with anything you send because I have seen your work.

I may jump in later if you need more. I'm committed to making some stoppers in exchange for chestnut and don't want to over commit.

Sounds good to me only thing is I do not stabilize so the stoppers will have a straight up glassy CA finish. If your good with that I would say we have a deal.

Stab isn't necessary Chris just glad to have another taker. If you don't mind send $1 also. PP is my secretary. Y'all will be getting the dollar back inside the box with the wood. Make sure you do not send it as a a gift. I can't print a label from a gift and that's the whole point of the buck.

:pleasantry:

If you're still looking for more, I can participate. You can see some of what I've done at my blog.

If you're still interested I'm good with the deal you've offered the others - or most likely anything else you would offer :)

I think I have enough for stopper trades, but if you guys want to make something besides stoppers, it don't really matter what to me, any 'ol thing that will make a nice stocking stuffer or two then I'll take you both up on that. If so, send $1 to sales at flameboxelder.com along with a comment about why you sending this and also your user name.

Paul I don't need your UN I know you now for what, 12 years now I think. :hi:

But bill if this interests you send the buck and I'll send the box along with your buck back inside with the wood. Also let me know what size wood you fellas want. I will also not be taking any more trades for now from other members - I think I am setting pretty for now.

Thanks to all who are participating.

Kevin just sent the $1.

As far as wood I would like, anything unusual. I have been on a bowl making jag as of late so anything you got like 2" thick & at least 5-6" square would be awesome. I also turn pens so anything 3/4" square and at least 5" long works too. BUT I Ain't too picky & will be happy as a clam with whatever you send. Just try to label the wood please. My stockpile of unknown wood is too big already.

Let me know what you have a preference for in return:

Pens, fan pulls, letter opener, ring (need finger size), bracelet (I make Bangle type currently (just tell me wide or narrow)

One of my more popular items of late has been the deer antler fan pulls.

That's a beautiful piece there Bill.

AFA the wood I'm sending, you will not forget it, nor the name of it, but I'll be sure to label it.

:dash2::dash2: Been to busy at a festival to log on for a few days. Looks like I missed out on a fine deal. Maybe next time Kevin. Made some money this weekend, but the biggest profit was meeting other artists and learning more about where and when of Festivals and Shows around here. Still learning. :irishjig:

Do you want a couple of these Red Cumaru anti gravity wine bottle holders? I know you had some stoppers made, figured these are nice add on's to that theme.

Just let me know I am building your end of the trade now & want to be sure you get things you like - feel will be good gifts.

Bill
