**ENDED** WTT waterfall bubinga slab

Hey Tony,

honestly I've never worked with it besides using it for the smoker. I think the only thing I've seen for woodworking is the occasional burl cap which are nice. Pictures are worth a thousand words though! I'll never decline at least taking a look.

My attitude to this thread is really just to keep the possibility of trade open. I don't have immediate plans to use them. I figured I would throw them up and if anyone wanted them they could just post pictures and we will see if we can work something out.

You should try it out sometime, it's a beautiful wood that works really well! I will get some pictures up this weekend. Tony

I'm waiting to see if Kevin will shoot me some pictures of some supposedly spectacular slabs of FBE.

I will tomorrow - give me a call you already have my number I think but call me around 2pm or so and I will snap the pics. Elsewise I may forget. But I am almost sure I will not trade these two pieces but I already told you that. But what the hey I promised I'd post them anyway so I gotta keep my word. :whatever:

No worries. I'm in no critical need of the bubinga. It's just one of those woods you can never have too much of, even though I don't often use it. Tamarisk isn't commercially viable because it's a shrub, rarely large enough to cut. I cut these trees off the Rio Grande where they grow enormous (for the species). This size is not uncommon, but is considerably larger than what's typically available. To the best of my knowledge nobody cuts these trees for lumber. It's an invasive weed that is despised for the way it kills out any competing vegetation & sucks up water. Nasty tree, pretty wood.

After thinking about it, I believe it would be an insult to try to get that Bubinga from you for mesquite. While it is a beautiful wood, it's not up there with what you've got. I do think you should try some out, really think you would enjoy it. Tony

Here's the best wood I got, unfortunately some are call blank size or longer call blanks, but figured I'd try. The first piece is cocobolo, think it's around 22" long, 5-3/8" wide and 1-7/8" thick, good amount of sap. The face grain is covered so doesn't show the actual color, it has orange, red and purple. Then I've got some brown and red mallee, they're around 1.5"sq or a little bigger and I think around 9-12" long, and some ycb but they're call blank size. If any spark your interest let me know.

Uhhhhh, umm, wow in the ycb!

Here are 3 boards for your viewing. 2 are gaboon ebony with a marbled effect from sap. One side is wiped down with paint thinner which only darkened it, The other shot is bare and somewhat rough. One board is 6 1/4 x 23 5/8 x 1 1/16th. The other 6 1/8 x 23 5/8 x 1 1/16th. One board does have a check on one side that doesn't go all the way thru but runs about half way up the board. The 3rd board is cocobolo with sap. It measures 6 1/8 x 36 5/8 x 7/8. It was wiped down. Pictures aren't the greatest. I do have other stuff but am having a hard time figuring a value on your boards. I'm only seeing veneer out there except for a gentleman in Canada who sells it pretty reasonable. Anyway take a look and tell me what you think.

I like the lathe :)

The big question is, are you interested in the boards I posted? What you paid and what I have are worth about the same. I can say for certain, finding gaboon that wide that is DRY is not easy to find. I also have all black if that is something you want but I thought you wanted a contrast.
I agree on the value. That ebony is really nice. Personally if its gabon, i would want black as black, but that black and white is really cool too.

Hey, I'm new around here.... is there a forum "policy" on how a thread is updated or.. tagged or....something. ...?
Once an item is no longer available?

Cause,... I'm gonna assume this bubinga slab isn't, since there has been no activity on this thread since Feb. '15....?????

Or is it?
I have some figured black walnut bookmatch panels... (already resawn & sanded) if the OP is interested.

Usually if it's real old, prob not still available but you never know, this site could also go by the name wood hoarders haha.

Lol hey guys,

I haven't been on WB since I started my own company. Been putting in 16-18hr days so I'm beat at the end of the day.

I still have both slabs. They're just sitting in the shop.

Since starting up the business I have shifted focus on doing small pieces and have moved to doing metal/wood furniture/ built ins. So, I've been toying with idea of letting all of the figured wood I had been buying go. Need a plasma CNC and they're not cheap.

I will buy the bubinga slab for what you have in it plus send you some FBE for your smaller projects if that interests you.
