ERC/ Juniper Billets

A mean thought that flitted through my mind...
These are aged dogwood. I ain't gonna sweat through these unless you all want to see the inside of the straightest one. I am not asking to sell it. But if no one else cares what it looks like split with a maul, I will probably bust them with a bandmill. If at all.

Cedar. This is the best I have currently. The other clean section had a 90 degree twist in 8 feet. I guess you could shoot the trick shots...
These, I am not a bowyer, but I have questions about the right billet. The seam at the 9 inch mark goes through. Is there still enough left on the side to work that out or is he fire wood?
The ERC isn’t usable for bows. The twist, exposure and defects wouldn’t allow for a bow. That Locust is looking real nice though! Just have the 3 billets or do you have 4? Thanks a lot!

Bummed about the bug damage on the dogwood. That’s another bow wood I’ve always wanted to try.

Yeah, I was thinking that might be the case with the ERC.
I have 4 of the locust.
And about 2/3 of that log is still whole.

I work in yards. A lot. I will try to keep you in mind for a straightish dogwood. I have a feeling, it would be a very dense compression wood that might benefit from being backed with sinew or another more flexible wood. However, it doesnt snap off easily when hit with a concrete truck so there is that...

That would be great. Dogwood is one of the more desirable traditional bow woods, but for some reason, you never see staves of it. How much you want for the 4 locust billets?

50 plus shipping. If I peel the bark, and cut 42 inches long, and stack carefully... I am hoping they will fall inside ups 1728 cubic inch flat rate. I am not sure of weight yet is my only real concern on the flat rate. If flatrate works, the total will be in the 80 range with shipping included.

That being said. What are you offering in trade. I like odd colored and crotch grain pieces for trinket boxes or small furniture highlights. A man can only make so many pens...

I’m more than happy to pay. I have loads of unusual woods from here in Taiwan, but shipping makes trades difficult due to the shipping costs. I have cinnamon blocks that are crotch pieces as well as litchi crotches. I’ve even got a jessamine crotch and a chrysanthemum root ball, but again, shipping makes it difficult so me paying is best. PayPal ok for you? You can cut the billets to 36’’. Thanks!

PayPal is fine. If billets are 36, does that give you room to trim?
I will need an address to figure shipping if flatrate fails. But I will check flatrate sizes with bark removed and trimmed close to 36 inches.

36 is usually enough for me to trim splice and get a bow. 40” would certainly be safer, but the box is the issue, so maybe just cut to that size. Thanks! I’ll send you my brother’s address.

I will try to trim this week, but my shipper is out of town and our weather just stole my day off. Now I will have to wait till next week to ship so we wont worry about payment til I show you the box. And then thursday will be fast enough for me to send on friday.

Here it is boxed. It looks good for the flat rate price so the numbers are all good. I debarked all and split a new billet because the biggest one had a little double knot almost centered in the billet from all directions. Thought that might leave ya a little wide of the mark... (when it snapped). It was about an inch and a half in from either edge. 1629937869981792730174332279747.webp
