Etymology

Just out of curiosity, I wanted to look up the origin of Q Tip. Went online, put in Q TIP. Got an answer of what it is, but the question in my mind was not what it was, but what caused it to be called Q Tip. The word for origins and definitions of words worldwide is "Etymology". Two places I looked didn't know what Etymology was, but found the definition I've known for about half my life.
I went back and put in "Etymology of Q Tip". Well, I still haven't found the answer. Oh well, life goes on. Boo hoo hoo. ........... Nubs

I had to do a couple different searches, first ones kept returning results from somebody whose friends called him Qtip because of his head/hair.
