Ahh. I see. I don’t think that you’ll find something that large though.
I do a lot of small projects, so it doesn't need to be big by any means. But just finding the real stuff has proved difficult.

I agree. Try getting guitar bridges or something similar. You could probably find some on here too. These are sources that have worked for me in the past and more recently. Especially the guitar tip. Yes you pay a premium but the wood is often really good looking and almost always premium quality.

Yeah i grab guitar pieces when they go on sale at exotic wood zone. I've gotten some really high grade curly maple, East Indian rosewood, ziricote, Honduran mahogany, and others. I just ordered 4 defective east Indian rosewood guitar necks and 4 pinhole east Indian rosewood guitar necks 2 days ago along with some more Uber cheap ebony in pen blank form. It doesn't specify the type of ebony, but I've only ever seen them sell gaboon, Indian, and pale moon and it's definitely not pale moon lol.

I have an IWCS sample for $20 on my sample sale list. I see several pieces on the shelf, but holding on to those at the moment.

You seemed to like the "Rare" stuff. Rare Woods is running their annual sale with 25% off a lot of stock, making some things more affordable. Trying to help.
Thanks. I did place an order with them. But to be clear they don't have Brazilian rosewood.

Did not say they did.
Well you replied to my post to Dan about Brazilian rosewood by saying you had a sample for $20. And when i asked for confirmation that you were talking about a sample of Brazilian rosewood, you replied about the sale going on at rare woods. So that's why Brazilian rosewood is being discussed right now. The sale at rare woods seemed completely off topic.

Sorry Ryan, did not follow you. The way you replied in post #45, traditionally in writing, implied you were thinking about it. Never saw anything asking about confirmation.

I had a 7" wide by 3' long by 2.5" thick plank of Brazilian Rosewood gifted to me by the Robert Robacker Estate. Bob was a close friend. It was tested and confirmed as Dalbergia nigra at the University of South Carolina a decade ago. I sold most of it and have a few pieces left. If you were looking to get an IWCS sample, I had offered. If you just want it for craft, I do not have any at this time, as I am still debating what I might like to make with such.

I had posted the Rare Woods sale item elsewhere but included it in this thread being you seem very interested in rare woods. Just trying to help.

I asked if you were in fact offering me Brazilian rosewood. Its an exceptionally hard species to find, and you seemingly came out of the woodwork to offer me a piece, so i was just trying to make sure that i wasn't misunderstanding you.

If you are offering a sample, i would take that. I would take any amount of Brazilian rosewood. I noted in an earlier post that it would be ideal if i got a big enough piece to allow me to use some for a special project. But if i can only get a small piece or a iwcs sample, then that is better than having none at all. It would at least give me a baseline for comparison should i ever come across more Brazilian rosewood in the future. So if the offer still stands for a sample, then I'll take you up on it.

Ryan,

I'll get on it come daylight. PM me an address. I don't have PayPal or that other stuff. Old school, just send me a check after you get it.

Cuban Mahogany is common in southern Florida and many Caribbean Islands, so it seems like guitar blanks of that species shouldn't be too hard to come by.... don't know about Brazilian Rosewood, I have seen guitar blanks in the past on Luthier supply sites
Hi Barry. If your work was in the Sedona gallery last summer, I admired it during our family vacation. You do beautiful work and maintain a beautiful website. Go Navy!
