Anybody have one they like and can recommend? About killed my knees picking pears, and want to save myself while picking apples in a few weeks. I don't want a fixed length pole, would prefer an extendable pole, as long as it has a decent locking mechanism. Nothing decent locally, so forced to buy online sight unseen and looking for a rec.

Hey Tim,

I almost stopped in last week, but was on a tighter schedule than I wanted.

I took one of these and cut my own foam in different shapes depending on fruit being picked. I inserted a 5 inch threaded receiver so I could put on any length handle I want. Most of the time a painter's extendable (telescoping) pole works for me. They come in a few sizes. Choose the one that works best for your trees. I have several, a 4' fixed, a 4-7' adjustable, an 8-13' and a 10-15'.

As for the receiver, might be hard to find. Knowing you, you might have an old paint roller with threaded handle that could be cut off and used, or an old rake that broke, or a mop head or...the list goes on.

Thanks Mark.

That's a good idea, lots of different things laying around to make a receiver from, then I can get a decent pole(s) locally.

Sorry you weren't able to stop. I'm only 20 minutes off I74, so if anybody happens to be travelling across IL, I'm flexible enough to be home as others travel schedules may allow.

Of course I also know how a 20 minute side trip turns into a four hour delay.....

There was a time...a few years ago you'd find one of those in every florida residents yard somewhere. Usually hanging in the grapefruit tree. :)

Went pear picking today. Used a hole handle drilled the end and screwed a 4” long j-hook in the end. Tweak the outward and bent the opening closer together. Worked great except wife could catch the pears and the tree was on the side of a hill. Filled a 5 gallon bucket in about 10 minutes. Well 20 if you count going down the hill and rounding up fruit. Pear cake in oven now.

Great haul of pears! I had about that many, but mine were all smaller. Kept a dozen for eating fresh and made pear sauce with the rest. Decided they were too small to peel and can.

Can't say I've used it personally but keep seeing it on Fedco's site lately. Looks just like the one Mark posted.
