Finished up this Box Elder hollow form.
Titled “A Change of Seasons” since I tried to transform the Ginkgo leaf from spring to fall colors.

About 5.5” tall and 4.5” wide. Wood burned, carved and acrylic painted. Finished off with water based poly.

Yes. It is extremely good. It has “visual balance” neither the wood, nor the shape or the details take the Center. They complement each other extremely well.
 
Everything about this one flows together so nicely --- the shape, the colors, the layout of leaves... well done. Looks like a morning dawn or a sunset view through a ginko vine.
 
Thats a beauty! In order to get the raised leaves, I assume you lowered the background? It's hard to tell, which is a good thing!
 
Fantastic! The background wood is like a sunset and the seasonal progression is very well done. Colors (wood and painting) are beautiful.

Any way you could turn an apple with limb and leaf outta this box elder? Only asking because that is what crossed my mind when I first scrolled across the picture.

Yes, have seen examples of a woodturned apple shape then could carve the leaves. Could also carve the stem. Sounds like it would be a fun project and a cool idea.

Ive seen people carve the stem and leaf from dry wood. Then turn the apple from green wood. Then drill a hole into the apple while green and stick the dry stem in. Then they let it dry. The stem was firm and didn’t come out because the apple shrunk around it. Their apple piece was quarter sawn to prevent splitting. They also dried it slowly. They knife finished it while green, then oiled while green (you can do that on some species) and then let it dry in a paper bag filled with wood shavings.

Looked good afterward. They did this on a festival as a demonstration. It was an amazing one week event.
