Just completed a freestanding bookcase that I will put into my workshop bathroom for towels, and other bathroom supplies. It is made of Alder wood, excepting the back 1/4” panel which I recycled from another project. The size is 31” wide by 11” deep, by 29” high. It took me quite some time to complete, as I was trying to integrate several firsts into the construction. The firsts were as follows: (1) Stopped dados in the bottom two shelves; (2) Dowel rod pegs in the bottom shelf; and, (3) Toekick on the front of the piece. Additionally, not a first, but I did put a Turquoise inlay in the center shelf, both top and bottom, to fill a gaping hole. Alder is on the soft end of hardwoods, but was easy to work with. I finished the case with three coats of General Finishes, Oil-based, Arm-R-Seal, Satin. Chuck
