Drawing inspiration from this commercial offering I keep seeing on Facebook that sales for $49.90, I decided to make my own version with a blade I purchased on Amazon for $14.00 and a scrap piece of lacewood. I did all the carving for the blade and magnets on the CNC and then formed the wood profile with bandsaw and sanding. I over engineered for the number of magnets but 4 are holding it pretty strong.

Chisel planes are something I have wanted for quite some time. I saw a design where you take the biggest chisel you can, cut off the handle, flatten the back (you should do this anyway) and then drill four holes with countersinks to screw it to a block. Looked good but haven’t gotten round to buying an expensive chisel.

If'n you lived in these parts, an inexpensive chisel is at every junk store, flea market, antique store. If you look friendly enough, a neighbor is liable to just hand you his old one that he doesn't feel like sharpening anymore.
This is a contributing factor to my plight of having too dang many chisels. I still tend to go through the chisels in the antique store. Still considering a 25 dollar 90 degree corner chisel that just needs a handle.
The magnet attachment is the part that makes this plane extra useful. Much easier to remove the blade and fine tune the edge on it.

I love magnets in the shop for that reason. Anything to help speed up the tedious portion of shop maintenance and cleanup. I recently started printing dust collection attachments with magnets to make hose connection/disconnect easier and quicker. I stuck a magnet on a metal cabinet and then stuck this glue remover to it so it is handy and I always know where it is....assuming of course I remember to put it back in its place. :lol2:
 
I have butt load of magnets. I need to make this.

That one came out great looking! Is it comfortable ?
