I'm Steve, I've been carving wood since 2009. Now with all this corona fun, I decided to try out some woodworking. Want to make a table myself, a chair and stuff like that. Wondering what do I start with?

Welcome from the Gulf Coast of Texas! What type of equipment do you have? What type of wood do you have available? Some of the question that come to mind?

What to start with? Usually for me that is dictated by what I need and not always what I want.

Well, I have some chisels, and nothing else :D Probably I'd love to start making a table first. It would be a good fit for the garden area. What wood would be the best for this purpose? And where do I get it actually?

It seems at this pointe you need to start gathering some tools up. Do you want to use hand tools? Power tools? Or a combination of both? Either way you'll need some basic tools like squares, tape measures and flat rules, saws either hand or power, drills and bits, etc.
Types of wood for outdoor projects? Well if your just starting out and learning go cheap. Cedar from the big box stores will work fine and it's easy to work. And far cheaper than white oak.

Hi Steve, welcome from Taunton Massachusetts. Hope you enjoy the site. You will need to have tools. And a plan. Not so much a project plan but action plan. Before you buy anything check out you tube how to's. Find a local woodworkers supply store and check our free demos. Woodcraft supply often has free demos and also offers reasonably priced workshops on just about every facet of woodworking. If there's a trade school near you ask if they offer adult classes. Pick a simple project that doesn't require a big tool investment. Bird houses, small utility bench. Build skills, get the feel of working the wood.
