Thanks, Molokai! Hope it's not raining for you like it is here! I always admired knife makers, the ones I know make some really cool stuff.

Thanks for such kind words. I am still a begginer...
Here is sunny and hot. Going to take a swim later.

How Terry, and welcome to the club. Sorry for the late post, I've been a little lax in my welcomes. I have plenty of time on my hands now.
Great to have you aboard and I look forward to hearing more from you.
:welcome2:

We have a couple of small hardwood sawmills around here that specialize in oddball stuff (along with cedar, oak, walnut, cherry) - things like sassafras, KY coffeetree, etc. - as available, at least. Beautiful, unsteamed walnut!!

You just ingratiated yourself to an even larger horde of woodaholics. We covet the unusual, the defective, the commercially non-feasible, and especially the "ugly".

The most fun I had with "commercially non-feasible" was pine roots cut on a bandmill. Way cool stuff!

Welcome from SE Texas! :welcome2:
Seems you've met a lot of the woodholics with your intro.
I "turn" mostly, with woods that grow in my area, and consider myself a well educated wood "collector"---has nice ring to it. :treehugger:

Thanks for giving me a shout-out, David! I've spent a bit of time in your neck of the woods, on business - pretty country!

I
Welcome from N. Alabama
I used to work with Terry Sellers at Mississippi State Univ. - he always told me he was from UCLA (Upper Corner of Lower Alabama)! I remember doing some work w/a timber co in north AL that owned (I think) 600,000 acres. The size of that property boggled my mind then and still does! Thanks for helping bring back a good memory.

There are several lumber companies in south Alabama that owned several 100,000 acres tracts. Several of them had their own railway system to haul the logs to the mill. I ws raised with fresh pine sawdust between my tools and my first job was at the sawmill running a debarker.
