Most everyone would agree I think, that when certain people in society are known to be proven deadbeats, con men, and are just plain not worth the salt in their worthless bodies, otherwise unsuspecting individuals would benefit from having been forewarned to avoid them like the plague, lest they lose their precious time and hard won treasure. Can we agree on this?

I think it's our duty here at Woodbarter to expose those known to be less than moral and of little character. I am proposing a "Hall of Shame" or something similar where we staff can give these kind of cretins their 15 minutes of fame permanent place in a hall of shame. This will serve 2 purposes:

  1. It will help others avoid these rascals.
  2. It will act as a warning to new potential members that if they screw anyone here they WILL be outed not just here but possibly even locally where they live too which is happening to someone we all know and love as we speak.
The guidelines for putting someone in the HOS will be extremely stringent, and can only be determined by staff working together making sure the nominee has truly been given every opportunity to make his trade/s right and has intentionally made the decision not to do so. Nominations can only be made via PM to an Admin. Right now I assume we only have one guy (whom I will soon make the first inductee). Heck we may even name the new forum after him. Wouldn't that be a riot.

The inductees will have their own thread which will be closed, but members can submit posts about the celebrity to a staff member and if they meet the guidelines the post will be added by a staff member. Sound off on what you think of the idea.

I think the reputation thing has more pluss's then minus's and this is kinda what this is. I think if we are damn sure beyond a shadow of doubt there should be a SH!t list. But A. we have to be carefull - stuff happens- Example- if I had a heart attack and could not get back here for a month- Kathie would already have her hands full- we have to be careful. I personally do not think list should be open to any kind of statements but positive ones- example- I had a car wreck and I am sorry that I was gone for 6 weeks. I will finish my trades. If someone came back and posted that - even with supervised posts in the hall of shame somebody would feel bad.
Preventing future loss by members should be the only goal of list...........

I voted that people should be warned. But I wish we had our rep point system back, that even had a space for negative rep points even though I never saw it used. I think that helped keep people honest. It at least put people at ease when dealing with someone for the first time. Most of the members here are honest stand up folks, but scammers will come and go, we seem to weed them out.

I am certainly not opposed to exposing those who have egregiously violated the rules and good nature of WB, including sharing facts and relevant details with groups and businesses in their local area (if known). I think that we need to be very careful though, since in any such case we are dealing with people of little character. It is a fact that we live in a highly litigious society and those who are likely to abuse the system are those with little character. I think that any public remarks need to be made very carefully and based on facts alone. It would really p*ss me off to see some dirtbag go after someone on here, particularly a mod/admin.

I voted yes because I do think a community like this has an obligation to support and protect each other - but voted that way with significant reservation... just so many opportunities for error/misunderstanding in an online, purely electronic environment where, for the most part, we don't know each other personally and are separated by significant distances. If it were my site, I would probably opt against it - I guess I realize there are some risks in an environment like this and choose to accept those risks given my confidence/trust in the majority. I trust you and the mods here to reserve this for the most blatant and verifiable offenses... but I also hate to see those of you that volunteer your time wasting it just to verify a rat rather than simply banning them and moving on.

Either way, I support you.

I voted for it, and I agree with the idea that it has to be stringently managed to avoid labeling someone unfairly. I've got another nomination for the turd list, but I'll wait until this other deal shakes out first.

I think we do an excellent job of policing ourselves. I remember a few months ago when a new member joined and he was quickly weeded out. This was the guy that nobody could compete with. If you had a .50 caliber gun, he had a .51 caliber. Your chainsaw had a 36 inch bar, his had a 42. He tried to one up everything everybody said. We called him on it and when we pressed for pictures (never saw a pic) he bugged out. He was a huge bull sh***er. We smelled that rat. Several of you guys will know who I am referring to.

I can think of others that have come in and stunk the place up for a minute or two, but they don't last long. This is a smart group. We police ourselves pretty well. I read new member posts carefully. I look at websites. I try to build some trust in my own mind to the extent that I can in this environment. The subject of the current debate seemed like a good guy. Not saying he isn't still, but facts are facts. If a deal hasn't been completed for a period of time and he has failed to make contact then I think it behooves all of us to let somebody know to keep another one of us from getting screwed.

I agree with the hall of shame idea after a complete investigation by the admins/mods. That surely will put a lot of work on you guys. Not sure I want your job. Your only consolation is the enormous paycheck you get for doing your duties here. Thanks to all the mods for keeping this train on the tracks.

I think the absolute worst thing that we (you) can do is create the new forum and NOT name it after him!

Hall of Shame is a nice way to do it....

I do have a concern. There are other sites related to wood working/wood turning. In at least two of them, there are some well entrenched cliques. If something is said about some one in one of these these, you can be assured that many of their associates will rush to their defense and tear down any accuser. I have not been involved, but I have watched it happen. I have also seen grudges built up as a result of something negatively written.

On the other side, people being people there will be animosity between some just because of life's events. Unfortunately, some can react unpleasantly and make rash statements about the other. I can see how this can be degrading to the site.

I think if some one feels that they have been shafted in an agreement, they should be allowed to voice their opinions. But, I wish there were some way to filter out the human interactions that are not related to the actual event. I don't have a solution; I just have a concern.

Maybe something life Amazon's/Ebay's star system just to protect the buyer/seller.

I disagree- should not be about revenge or getting even- just business as usual.

I remember at least one neg before. I also remember a few that we had difficulties with and at least one here that was given a second chance. life is too short- keep with the positive vibes- leave the neg behind.....

Mike, thanks for keeping us level-headed. You're right, it should not be targeted or about revenge. Just don't put El Guapo up there!

I like Doc's name for it - turd list. Simple and clear.

I did not vote either way because I would choose a more middle of the road approach where a complaint of any kind would get a member put on probation where the "accused" member has restricted access until the issue is resolved. If the accused becomes convicted there should be a public banned list with a reason attached to their name as to why. The reasons should probably be simple and short like "unfulfilled obligations" or "repeated rule violations" or the famous "other" as a reason.

i voted yes . Living in a free society means having the patience and tolerance nessesary to forgive and forget. that said If a person is intentionally messin with the welfare of a given group the group has a moral obligation to deal with the issue and not avoid it. That being said I am the #1 procrastinator on this forum. Ill tell you about it tommorow after i ship andrews week late pkg . PEACE ALL cl

what would be nice to see made a sticky at the top of the for sale section and the trade section is a good deal,, bad deal thread top of each page and encourage people to use it then that way you can look at it and see whats what ,,,,see this on few different hunting sites I have visited and is nice do little digging before buying of certain people ,,,Just a thought

My only concern is that somebody is going to get them a lawyer and sue because WB caused them mental injury and ruined their reputation. It's the society we live in. Trying to make an easy buck. Just my 1/2 cent.

MOST of what everyone has offered as "buts" I have already covered in my initial post. In sales it's called overcoming the objections before they offer them. The reason you do this is because you can say something like ...
The guidelines for putting someone in the HOS will be extremely stringent, and can only be determined by staff working together making sure the nominee has truly been given every opportunity to make his trade/s right and has intentionally made the decision not to do so. "

... and someone is going to craft a post saying the exact same thing with different words as if you never even mentioned it. What the reasons are for that are beyond me. Maybe they didn't read the post or simply trying to bump their Like count.

This is not about a rep system. Not about likes. Or dislikes. We don't have a dislike or rep system and not likely to get one anytime soon. It's about trying to keep other members especially new one who do not know who the jackasses are - to not trade with them whether here or elsewhere. In fact trading with anyone on this list would not be possible here because to make the list you would have to already be banned. Something I failed to mention.

Really loving the replies keep 'em coming.
