Our hot weather broke and we are out of the 90's, but the tradeoff is the smoke haze from Canada has settled in and we are in the upper range of the "unhealthy" category. Don't smell the smoke, but you can sure see the haze. No where near as bad as those to the North have had it last few days, but staying inside for the most part.

Had a little fire break out about a mile north of us this afternoon. Got up to around 5 acres, the local fire depts stomped it out within a couple hours. No evac notices for us but some for the houses just north of us.
I cross a low water bridge over the Pedernales when I go to my deer lease. The road drops quickly down and then back up like a roller coaster. Fun to take it pretty fast to give you that roller coaster feel. It's been featured numerous times on FB cuz there's no drop due to the amount of water rushing down it
They announced that the fire that broke out about a mile north of us was caused by some complete moron shooting a .223 at Tannerite targets!! It's so dry out here a sideways glance from a mother-in-law would start a fire and this idiot decides to go target shooting. 47 years old, wasn't even some kids goofing around. Ended up burning a little over 20 acres but I think the fire depts protected all the structures. The report says they charged him with a few charges - we'll see if anything sticks. I think they should put him in a room with all the people around him who had to evacuate themselves and their livestock and lock the door until someone says it's okay to open it again.

We were in Colorado last week. State wide ban on open burning. Saw dozens of people with fires. I asked a few and each responded nearly the same. "If you are cooking food, it does not count as an open fire." I tried not laughing and think I did well, but still think that lame excuess needs to be reviewed. I can see acception for contained propane grilling and maybe charcoal grilling, but not a 30" diameter camp fire for cooking. The one day we had 40-60 mph winds that just came out of nowhere. They lasted 2 hours. Son says it happens all the time. Can just imagine....
Where’s the angry emoji? BS!! Not sure about state, but many counties banned use of pellet stoves. Gas grills are okay, but I think charcoal cooking is banned.
The good news is that we are in line for good rains and storms starting today. Of course then comes the mudslides on the burn scars……
