Found this in the side of the road the other day. Being so early in spring, there’s no leaves so that’s no help. I’m located in western NY, specifically Rochester. Has almost a “sweet” “cedar” lime smell to it. I can post more pics when I cut into them if needed. Thanks all for looking!

Could be a number of things. Walnut has the pith you see in the end shots. The bark doesn't look like black walnut we have around here. There are many types of trees that have the pith and that is a fairly fast growing tree. The chainsaw cut ends don't give a lot of color clarity or much to see on grain structure or pore structure. I would back up the walnut guess with a sumac if they grow that big in your area. I don't remember any that size when I was up there but I wasn't watching for them either.
Got an aunt and uncle in Rochester NY. They were both professors at RIT. I was usually skiing when I visited them, not tree cutting.
