Yesterday I got a miscellaneous box of turning blanks from our turning club. Most of them were marked but some weren't. Naturally I don't have the contact info for the person that put it up for auction.

My main questions are for 1 through 3. #1 is lightweight and dense. #2 is dense and heavier. #3 is the heaviest. I'm assuming that #4 is cocobolo (dense and heavy) and #5 is purple heart, but wanted to be sure. Thanks!

Congrats on the box of wood! Believe you are correct on #4, and unmistakably #5 is Purpleheart. The others I’m not sure about. Chuck

1 looks like Bubinga and 2 like black mesquite but that is based on color and face grain.

If you got them from your club, they should be able to help you. Secondly, check to see if any match one of the labeled ones. People often skip labeling a second piece assuming the other person will see it matches one labeled. Good luck.

That is a great point you mention- labeling, I forgot to note that #1 is marked with a '12' or a 'B' so bubinga makes sense. #2 starts with a 'C', #3 ends with an 'N' (probably pecan since they included a partially turned pecan bowl).
