Infinite staircase cutting board

I got it trimmed up and sanded, it is 11.75 x 18 after the trim job. I started with the belt sander and 80 grit to even things out and finished with 600 on my random orbit. I raised the grain with water and the heat gun 3 times. I just wiped on a coat of mineral oil for the picture, I have a gallon on order so I can give it a overnight soak. It's right at 1.75" I guess I must have ripped the strips a little over. They lined up pretty good when I glued them. It's a good thing, maple and cherry end grain sands pretty slow.

@Nature Man asked to see pictures of this project, I'm probably not much of a teacher. This is my first attempt so I'm learning, you can find a couple of excellent YouTube videos online. The most important part is to start with equal thickness strips of contrasting color wood. I used maple and cherry. Also put some time into jointing everything to keep things as straight as possible.

I was worried that it might affect the pattern but it didn't. After that I cut it up into 1.75" strips laid out the pattern and glued them all back together. That's it for today.
