Bought a piece of Cherry today from a friend. It’s 2.75” x 8” wide x 10’ long.
The board was stamped in two places * see pic.
I Googled it and evidently the board originates from Canada and has been heat treated.
I’m probably late to the show, but I wasn’t familiar with this, so thought I’d post a pic in case someone else might have boards with these stamps.

I think Mark (@Mr. Peet) knows something about these. I believe it was he who explained one to me once.

International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) is a quick code crediting compliance with the International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures (ISPM). Each country has a letter code, most are 2 digit. They also have letter codes for how the pallet was treated to protect and limit reduction of spreading natural threats. Your HT = heat treated, KD = Kiln dried and MB = methyl-bromide are the 3 most commonly listed. These pallets are used for international trade and not required by most countries for within house shipping. The numbers after the county code refer to origin, as in where the pallet company is located or where they are listed as in head quarters.

The code CA is used for Canada. CN is used for China. Clean up a section of face and an end grain and let's see if it is really cherry.

@Mr. Peet @phinds

Cleaned up the end-grain (1/16 scale) which is sanded to 220 grit.

Plus a pic of the raw wood which “looked like” Cherry.

Plus a couple additional pics
1) face grain and 2) edge grain
(direct from hand-planer).

No distinct Cherry smell. As a matter of fact, no detectable smell (to me). Thanks for any help.

I was thinking CN might have been Canada, so thanks for clearing that up. Not sure what species might be stamped from CN (China).

Certainly not cherry. I'll poke around later and see if I can get an idea what it IS instead of just what it isn't.

Golden Shower tree (Cassia fistula) was my first thought, but the end grain does not look to match...

i have seen a number of pallets with similar looking wood, made from what appears to be an acacia hybrid, that is "farmed" for quick growth for cheap pallet wood.

what does the hardness/density feel like?

I’m planning to cut an 8” piece off soon and turn a bowl. I’ll be sure to get it weighed when I do that,
