To quote Monty Python: "Now for something completely different."

Your entry must include one or more of each a turned section and a flat work section. They must be fully integrated into the final piece (ie you can't just make a turned bowl and set it on a flat board).

Think art deco, avant garde, Picasso,... You could make a Z-shaped flat work stand and drill a hole or holes thru it and insert a candleholder or two; you could make a round bottomed vase and create a tripod style support stand for the vase to sit in; you could make a multi-tier centerpiece for the dining room table with flat pieces and turned pieces; you could make a turned piece that appears to be sliced in half by a thin flat board or two, you could make a bowl with a wide flat square brim around it; you could make a cutting or charcuterie board but with a bowl for dip that is supported by a flat work stand (can't just set the bowl on the board); you could turn a pencil holder and incorporate it into a flat work section that provides for a note pad and paper clip holder; turn salt & pepper shakers and a toothpick holder and make a unique flat work stand for them to set in; make a few chopsticks with a turned cylinder to hold them and combine it with a flat work piece for holding wasabi dishes or something; etc. Get creative. Your entry doesn't have to have a specific use, it could just be art - superb woodworking art that includes something turned and some flat work.

You don't have to but you are welcome and even encouraged to collaborate with another WB member to create your piece. One could do the turning, the other the flat work and then combine them (of course you then have to decide who gets to keep it - or you could make two and each keep one). (Thanks for this idea Frank).

Since this is a little more involved I'd like you to risk the aliens spying on you for a few days and take off your foil hat and put on your creative thinking hat for this one, I'll start it June 1st and close it to entries on July 11th ( one week after Independence Day holiday).

PS: Since I'm not a turner and don't usually participate in these, please let me know if this is out of line, more than what people want to do, etc.

Seems like too short a time for many. Since you were a non compliant wood turner, make it 2 months. Just a thought
