Have been wanting to see this for awhile and finally got a chance to a couple weeks back.

Figured some of you woodies might enjoy some pics. Didn't get a chance to take to many due to the heat... It was 91 out and I melt around 73 so we had to move fast!

Overlooking the dammed up backwaters is a huge monument and some cool stuff from back in the day. A long trip of 300 stairs to the bottom of the flowage was an outlook where the logs were rolled off a huge hill and into the water. The scarf is still there today as a permanent mar on the landscape.

These huge white pines were sent to the prarie states for further development and expansion west.

My Lord were the young men tough...

And then a couple pics of log stamping tools.

And lastly how hardy these guys were and the price they paid... awfully young to worn flat out!! Another sign said the men would eat up to 7 porkchops or 3 to 4 steaks a night to try and have enough calories for the next day of labor...

Also the water you see in the background is the dammed up river where the huge hillside is that they rolled these logs down. Ill try to grab a pic off google maps or if youre interested you can look yourself. Lumbermans Monument is Oscoda MI will bring it right up.

Cody, have you ever been to Hartwick pines? Another Michigan logging museum, very cool to check out. And there is an old growth forest you can walk through.
