Long box turkey call dimensions

Hey all,

I'm planning on building a long box turkey call. I've built short boxes before with some success. How long do the box portions typically run? Wall thickness? Do the sides need any arc? Or can they be flat? I was planning to do a glued up version, rather than boring out a box. Any tips would be great!

Sounds like me. I have only built short boxes Cost style. I do plan on making some long boxes when things slow down. I've never seen a glued up long box so can't help there, but on most long boxes I have seen the radius is definitely flatter than a short box, but it still has a slight arch to it. Seems that most long boxes I have seen are a minimum 12".

Yeah I also have only built short boxes. I decided to go for it, go with an 11 inch total box length and a 7 inch sound chamber. Sound boards I cut to 3/16 ish to give room to tune. Would still be cool to get a discussion going about building long boxes though.

I'll take pictures later but right now I've cut up some black limba to make sound boards and the body of the call. Like I said, 11" total length and 7" sound chamber.
