@SA-Motors by chance do you need turkey oak? I just got a slab in your size
@daveflutes Turkey Oak as in Quercus cerris? Yes I would love a piece. Can you add it to the lot you are sending me? I am cutting more of your blanks today. Can I add in a 1" x 1" x12" piece of Russian Olivewood (likely Elaeagnus angustifolia) and Angelim Pedra (Hymenolobium petraeum according to seller page) to the lot I am sending you in exchange for the Turkey Oak?

Those two would be fantasic thanks, they're both ones I've been after in particular. The turkey oak is Quercus cerris. You're also helping me to clear some room. I've just oiled the turkey oak flute, here's a preview. I'll cut it tomorrow.
@Friedrich9 was looking for turkey oak a year ago. He also has some rare Aussie species you almost certainly don’t have.

Hi @daveflutes I’ve cut everything now. Here are the ones not in the previous photograph. I’m including an extra lean on Cyprus, because of the knots. Hopefully you can make a flute out of one or the other.

@Friedrich9 what size turkey oak would you use? It's about 1 3/4" thick and I'll have about 3 1/2" width left and 18" long. The seller had more pieces if you wanted something bigger and it weighs nothing.
Were you interested in the pucte (Terminalia buceras) or guayacan (Libidia paraguariensis)? I've almost finished the flutes so I'll post photos later of how they would look when finished.

@daveflutes hi, for the turkey oak I’m debating if a 3 1/2” diameter bowl is big enough. Would you have a 12” length of that board to spare?
I’m definitely interested in the guayacan. Do you need an immediate decision on the Pucte? I’m still trying to figure out if it’s in the material I received.
yes on the boonaree. I definitely have a piece big enough for a flute blank.

The guayacan should be about 30 x 4 x 1.25" left. And it's like brick! Definitely the hardest wood I've ever worked. I've done bigger Janka numbers but this stuff is *hard*.

@Friedrich9 to correct myself, the rest of that turkey oak was getting pretty soft at the top. I got a good spindle for Steven but that leaves only a small amount of good stuff.

@daveflutes when convenient if you don’t mind. A 5-6” diameter bowl blank would be ideal depending on what’s available. I may of missed it on your list, but do you have access to Argan wood (native to Morocco)? Been searching for it for a while and seems it’s a bit more common in the U.K.

@Friedrich9 I've ordered another 3 x 1 feet of turkey oak. I'll lose quite a lot to wormholes and soft edges but it must produce a few blanks of different sizes.
I haven't heard of argan, but now I want it! I can't see a supplier immediately, did you see it anywhere in particular? Do let me know if there are any other woods I might be able to get more easily over here.

Thank you. And Argan is Sideroxylon spinosum. It’s supposed to smell really good and it’s oil is used for hair products etc

@Friedrich9 turkey oak #2 has arrived. I've cut a foot off for you - first photo with the ruler. The top right corner (pencilled) is soft but the rest is all solid.
The second photo is the remainder. Quite a bit is punky or has wormholes but there's still plenty of solid wood there too.
