Outstanding! So nice to see creative use for woods from throughout the world! Chuck
But how do they sound...?,,,First two flutes from the trade with @SA-Motors : laurel oak and Leyland cypress.
The laurel oak is amazing, I had a lot of bug holes to fill but they really add to the look. Definitely one of my favourites. The Leyland cypress was a little trickier, maybe not an ideal flute wood, but that's part of the fun!

I really do need to make some videos! I'm just much better at making flutes than playing themBut how do they sound...?,,,
Glossy or common? (Frangula or rhamnus?)@daniscool ive gotten lost in this forum I’m so far behind. But I’d be interested in some buckthorn if you have any to spare. I’ve been looking for a few years
Is buckthorn rare? I got a few pieces of it in boxes of Paul's. I didn't think it was anything special@daniscool ive gotten lost in this forum I’m so far behind. But I’d be interested in some buckthorn if you have any to spare. I’ve been looking for a few years
It depends what size. How large are your pieces? Most don’t get big enough for flat work.Is buckthorn rare? I got a few pieces of it in boxes of Paul's. I didn't think it was anything special![]()
@daniscool id be interested in both actuallyGlossy or common? (Frangula or rhamnus?)
I can do either. I currently have quite a lot of glossy as you can see.
Can do. It will take some time though. I’m a slow trader.@daniscool id be interested in both actually
They're all 1.5" to 2" turning squares i believe. There might be a short, but definitely none of it is boards. It depends what size. How large are your pieces? Most don’t get big enough for flat work.
I bet you’re faster than me. I’m on year three with a guy from AustraliaCan do. It will take some time though. I’m a slow trader.
Yeah that explains it. It is pretty common but usually is very small. They're all 1.5" to 2" turning squares i believe. There might be a short, but definitely none of it is boards.
I can do that but would rather only pay shipping to the US once. Can I try to send it all as one package to either you or Friedrich9?Hi @daniscool i’d be interested in some buckthorn too. Both species if you have enough to do spindle blank 18“ x 1.5“ x 1.5“

My gods, you want Callery pear? The Pyrus calleryana cultivar known as "Bradford pear" is a common ornamental and also an increasingly unwelcome invasive species in about half the US. My town was offering free replacement native trees to anyone who cut down their Bradford pears.A top 20 wishlist for @SA-Motors. Hard to pick from the 90-odd I need but you have to start somewhere!
