I got my crap cedar logs finished up and moved on to my substantial pile of cull pine. As I said in the other thread I want to build some permanent ground blinds for deer hunting. I will need quite a few 2 x 4 's so I decided to get them out of the way first. I'm milling them to dressed size so they will probably be a little undersized after drying but it shouldn't matter for my purpose. I'm guessing that I might need 100 so I'm going to make at least 150. This log yielded 33 plus 3 bonus boards. I made some 2 x 6 for the floor framing from the cedar, the rest I will build from pine. My only out of pocket cost will be Windows, hardware, and roofing material. IMG_20260606_120806868.jpg IMG_20260606_115135675.jpg IMG_20260606_104533611.jpg

Looking forward to seeing the final product
Me too but it will probably be closer to fall, I have too many projects and I want the lumber to dry out a little. It's won't be dry of course but it's much easier to work with if it gets down close to 20 percent.

Nice! Thats a good looking log, why was it a cull?
Dead standing, the mill won't buy anything with loose bark because they usually have blue stain and bug holes. This log has a little of both. Also logs under 12' automatically get down graded no matter how nice. You get more money for a crooked 16 than for 2- 8's. I could have made quite a few premium boards from this because the stain and bug holes were mostly in the outer 3". White pine is either winter cut or if summer cut it has to move very quickly from the stump to the mill. After it gets to the mill they run sprinklers on the log piles to prevent mold and bugs.

Dave, if you get down my way, I have plenty of windows you can have. We recycled a 35 foot RV trailer and a 20 footer over the years. Kid was going to sell the windows for college funds but did nothing. We would like to see them gone (the windows).

I'm pretty sure I won't make it that far from home. I use plexiglass without a frame to make a silent easy open window. But thanks for the offer.
