Cut a few small mesquites for pen blanks from a future park site. They were in planned roadways. A mix of heart and sap was requested. I will make pens for the landscape architect and parks director to give to dignitaries, mayor & council etc at the ribbon cutting. Pens made from wood from the park site make great reminders of the park opening. Blanks sealed and will be put up to dry.

One last thing - I spray all of the sap with Clorox. From my experience and understanding mama Pin hole borrowers look/taste for an abundance of carbs in the wood to feed potential offspring. The clorox inhibits that ability. I have had very good preventative success in stopping those little rascals. Of course this is a small home treatment not to undermine larger efforts that might require a more professional treatment like Bora-care or the like.

I have neither heard or tried that. Sounds easy.
PPBs have a tough time here. Every summer the humidity plummets. 90s with 15% days things out. I think the little buggers need 12%. Right now register on meter would be tough to find. And any problems I just fry them.
I thought skeet dried easy and the bugs did not like or are you worried about the sap.

Yes on the dries well and yes on saving the sap. Want some in the final pens. If you don’t treat - holes and wood flour. PPBs live here and vacation here!
