Anybody else out there who like me, saves all the little cutoffs and odd shaped boards you accumulate? I'm looking for a small koa thin 13/32" or better for the 4th side of a box. I have three pieces of koa roughly 13/32" ( call it 3/8" proud). I have two longer pieces and one irregular shaped piece. So I have the long sides and can cut one short side from the irregular. The longer pieces are 3"+ wide so that sets the depth of any potential box unless I add trim pieces or something. The longest section I can get that is 3" wide from that irregular piece is 4-4.5" long, so that would be the length of a short side. Hence, that's the dimension I'm looking for. But I need a piece to make the other short side. I have a beautiful long koa board I got from Chris ( @Kalai ) but I don't want to cut a chunk off it just for this. Hoping someone has a cutoff piece you've squirreled away that you don't have a use for. I can trim it to final dimension and can work with irregular or rough sawn piece and it's okay if it has a little sap wood.. Thanks.

I just might, although it would be thicker than 13/32". I'll check when I get home.

Did you get those pieces from someone on W/B? Maybe they have a lot more of them? Like A LOT more :sofa:

Heh heh. I did get those from someone here on WB. I think it was you my friend. Do you have any more? And if you're referring to the koa hoarding king, one M, Hill, no, prying a piece of koa away from him is like trying to pry a slice of bacon away from a rottweiler.

Yes, I’m heading out for a while now but I’ll get back to you later this afternoon. I have other Hawaiian woods also if you want to make a themed box? Just a thought..

@Cloud of Sawdust Farms I was just razzing Jeff:cool:. I actually bought a pick up load of Koa thins about 15 years ago then a trailer and pick up load of miscellaneous Hawaiian log shorts about 5 years ago.

Doug, I can ship you these two pieces for $23. If that works I’ll see how much I can add in peanuts before the shipping rate increases. Pictures are of dry wood and misted with water.

Thanks Rob. I think either one of those would work - from the ruler it looks like I could easily get a 3x4 piece. Is the thickness close to 13/32"? If it's quite a bit wider I can resaw. If it's close but too much to sand that becomes more of a problem because I don't have a planer. I'll take them if the thickness is close to 13/32". PM sent.

Thickness is 15/32 and 17/32. One has been sanded somewhat the other is rough sawn. Should be similar to the original pieces when you got them. I let you know tracking # after I print the label.
Thanks Doug.
