I was wondering if anyone out there has cut Padauk lumber and had this color variation appear? A full 1" thick board that I resawed. First, I ran the board through my drum sander to flatten and get an even thickness. Hit both sides with the sander DSC_0003.webp DSC_0002.webp and it looked very uniform in color, nice vertical grain. Once I resawed it, I got this.
It almost looks wet in the dark areas but isn't. The wood was kiln dried. I have resawed a ton of this stuff in the past and never seen this. I will let it sit for a few days to see if it evens out.

I have some unnaturally dark and streaked padouk wood. I’m making some handles at the moment. I will post them when I’m done. It is a very interesting wood.
