Just getting into turning mostly because I like making and using my own stuff for hunting and fishing. I pour my own jigs and plastics, tie my own jigs and flies, reload my own ammo, make my own arrows and a longbow etc. Also tanning my own fur for projects so it only felt natural to make my own game calls.

I've turned a few turkey pots so far and a couple squirrel calls. Every time I get a little better at it but I'm a perfectionist at heart so I won't be happy until they're perfect.

I've finished the turkey pots mostly with blo and then a wax paste. For the air blown calls I plan on finishing with ca to protect from the condensation on the inside. How is the best way to get a good coat on the inside of a call without messing up the id where a reed won't fit properly? I've yet to try it. Also, can you put ca over blo? I like the look blo gives but I want the protection of the ca. Thanks.

Welcome to the site James. You're probably gonna like it here. Lotta call makers, both air and pots. I only have one caution for you , There is no such thing as PERFECT in woodworking............ Nubs

Will do! Got multiple styles from complicated designs with dart rests and the simplest "forked stick" ones. I haven't made a basketmaker yet. Gonna try that one day.

I can't post pics now, because they are in the basement and I don't want to get out of bed but tomorrow I will post. I do find, that the dart is more important than the thrower. I am not good at making darts. Mainly because we don't have good dart material in Austria. In NZ we had lancewood and ToiToi which were amazing dart materials. All we got here is young Phragmites and hazel. No viburnums either.

What you got?
