Hello, I have been a millwright / carpenter most of my life bought a farm in the northern Washington cascades a few years back started dipping my toes into wood working , I picked up a saw mill to make my own lumber for my hobby. Trying to suck up as much knowledge as I can .
Heres my first build , I got some old beams from a school that was gonna be torn down. They allegedly came from an old Dutch barn, that might have been repurposed from early settlers ships that the Dutch used as they colonized northern Washington state .
I split them with a chainsaw beam cutting attachment on a worm saw and ran them through a planner to size . I was surprised to see the tight grain of the wood on the inside . It Looked like really old red oak… I think ?!?!? Not sure, I’m still learning about identifying wood and types . Let me now if you know what it is and what you think thanks ! Iv got a collection of rare woods I want to share with the community in the future .
