When is the last time you saw NIP for sale ? I have access to three trees that have been recently cut . Price is a variable , depending on size . Min is $25 for a piece or pieces that would fit into a MFRB . Let me know your interest. IMG_0278.JPG IMG_0281.JPG IMG_0279.JPG

I'm sure there will be interest, but you will need to list specific ones for sale. Think what may sell well are larger pieces that could be made into larger bowls, hollow forms, and peppermills. Chuck

We had a severe freeze in Central Florida this winter and it killed a lot of Norfolk Island Pines. There will be a lot available over the next few months. In answer to an earlier question-the branches do extend all the way to the pith of the tree. The wood can be turned either side grain or end grain. End grain is my preference because the piece can be turned to final thickness without worrying about the piece cracking or moving. With careful positioning, it's possible to get a star shaped pattern from the branches in the bottom of a bowl or on the top of a hollow form. It's also possible to turn a bowl very thin (1/8 - 1/4"), soak it in a 50/50 mixture of mineral spirits and boiled linseed oil to turn the wood translucent. If you have a piece of NIP that is very dry, I suggest you soak it overnight in a bucket of water to rehydrate the wood. It will cut much more cleanly with a lot less tearout.

The soaking for translucency can be done with other woods like yew too. Though it works better on NIP than on yew.

I have one that is 2 1/4 inch in dia and 24 inches long with 3 sets of knots , one set on each end and one set in the middle. I can cut it to your requirements .
Any chance you could send or picture or point it out on the pictures you already posted?

How big (diameter) is the log on the bottom right of the second picture? It is laying diagonally in the corner. I like all the "limbs" on that piece.

Dan , the small piece as shown in the front of the picture is Norfolk Island Pine . The other pieces in the background are Magnolia,

How large diameter ? The wood is fresh cut and very heavy .
I don't have a specific project in mind for it, but generally i shoot for 3" wide 4/4 as a minimum. So maybe a log in the 6-12" dia range? Im not familiar with the species though, so i don't know what to expect in terms of the pith (size, stability, etc).
