One other thing all of you that bought some should know-the sap is in the bark, not the wood. It's nasty stuff but once you get rid of the bark, the wood is nice to work with.

Thanks Tim. You are right . At a certain time of the year , The sap just pours out .....very nasty . This tree did not seem to have very much .

# 3 , #4, #6, #7 and #8 are sold., plus one other to Mike Hill . I would entertain offers for the other three pieces of NIP..
I am also posting NIP # 9 for $20 . It measures 8 " diameter X 5 inches and is nicely spalted . This bowl blank does not have any knots IMG_1953.JPG

Got my pieces today. The #6 piece turned a deep blue during transit which I assume is a mold or fungus growth? I'm actually quite happy that it got some color, especially blue color. Hopefully it ends up looking very pretty once I cut into it. I managed to strip the bark from all pieces by hand, which was quite surprising. It has a very unique smell to it. I cant quite place it, but its kind of pleasant smelling...nothing like your typical conifer odors.

The color is spalting.
It's very easy to get Norfolk Island Pine to spalt. Put the piece, with the bark, in a black garbage bag with a little water, close the bag and put it in a warm, dark place for several weeks, checking periodically to see how the spalting has progressed. Take the blank out and let it dry when it has reached the desired level of spalting.

I think that's more or less what happened, except it was a grocery bag and a week in a UPS truck lol
